Isometric camera view, possibly with a zoom and rotate option. There were problably be infantry, vehicles, maybe aircraft and boats. There will also be structures and a builder unit or structure of some kind.
In other words, its going to be the exact same. Thats what makes an RTS and RTS.
Personally, I would like to see more games that are "tactical" RTS's (games without base building). While building armies is fun, I also like to be budgeted a certain amount of units and then win the map that way. Games like Force 21, Ground Control, Myth series, Warhammer: Dark Omen, etc are all amazingly fun games that make you use your brain. Multiplayer is always fun because the games are quick and neat: no base defenses, just my army against their army.
Hopefully something with the scale of SupCom, the queue system in SupCom and the pure awesomeness in Warhammer 40K.BounceDKAnd do not forget fully destructible environments.;)
Here is what I hope will happen:
- More realastic graphics... Crysis style.
- Completly destructible environments. That mean if I attack a building it will get destroyed and what's left of the building will stay thoughout the game.
- Games where you get the option to invade countries. Where youg et real-scale countries and you have to indave them. Now that would be really innovative in RTS games. Â
the only thing that's changed over the last ten years is we've gone from two dimensional sprite-based games or VOXELS (THEY ARE THE FUTURE!!!!) to three dimensional, polygonal models - along with all the other standard technologies we see in other games... shadows, water and smoke effects
rts games are behind the curve compared with, say, fps games because of the scale - there's often dozens or hundreds of units milling about in large, open environments - but all the same technologies there... and, technologically speaking, rts games aren't advancing any differently to any other genre - just slower
we may, in time, see rts games that look like unreal 3.0 - where every unit is gloriously detailed with all manner of technological buzzwords i don't understand flying around in the background
in short, rts games will look like all the other games, because everything is built in the same wayÂ
