I dont want to spend a fortune on a 790i. Is there a big difference between ddr2 800 and ddr2 1066?

790i is DDR3 only, 780i is DDR2 only.

Pick your poison--I wouldn't go anywhere near NVIDIA chipsets.

I thought that 790i was DDR3 only. But, the 750i FTW mobo from EVGA is a really nice piece of kit, apparently is also better than some 780i mobos in tersm of overclocking.

Now i keep hearing different stuff. Half the stuff I read says pciex16 is NOT the same as pcie2.0 and the other half says they are. Half the boards with specs listing pciex16 slots do NOT include pcie 2.0 compatibility in their description, the other half do. On evga's site there isn't a single mention of pcie 2.0. It's all pcie x 16. MSI p7n for instance, lists 1 pcie 2.0 slot and 2 pcie x 16. So which is it? Is it the same or not?

Why's that? Is that a fanboy comment or a sincere warning? Please elaborate because I'm going to start buying components for my new PC soon. I'll really appreciate your honest opinion and advice. Thanks. :)

40 bucks less than the eVGA, only downside is 800 MHz ram instead of 1066

Well, Intel chipsets are generally more stable for overclocking. They also offer CrossFire, which looks like the way to go this generation.

There are some video corruption problems with the 780 and 790 chipsets, among other buggy problems. Nothing major however, and I think the 750i is immune to said problems. I have the EVGA 750i FTW board, and the thing is rock solid, almost perfect. No video corruption, perfectly stableas of yet, however I do wish it had more SATA ports and USB motherboard headers. But if I really need more, I'll stick something in the empty PCI-E slot.

I'm leaning towards the 790i Chipset. You mentioned buggy problems that are not major. What kind of buggy problems are there?
