Heyy, you already read my question when you clicked the topic, so what would really really love to see in an FPS?

Combine STALKER with Armed Assault/OFP. Basically STALKER in a huge non-linear world. So basically like they were planning to do when they first started working on STALKER. Maybe in STALKER 2 or 3 we'll get a truly huge non-linear world to explore. ArmA and OFP are pretty cool but they are clearly not utilizing their whole arsenal. Such a big world, but so little is used in each mission. Hell, there shouldn't be any "missions" to begin with, if you know what I mean.

I'd like to see an ACTUAL story; a reason for where I'm going and a purpose for what I'm doing. I'd like to see an actual Singleplayer-based FPS again, not just a Multiplayer with a SP mode. Half Life, System Shock 2, Splinter Cell, Deus Ex, Elite Force II: Like 'em or not, these are great story-based FPS's.

Edited for the weird spacing problem on these boards...

Story is awesome and all, but the reason why I asked is because I already got a base idea for a great story in an FPS I wanna make one day. now the reason for the question is I was wondering what things people would love to see gameplay wise that hasent been done before and most FPS's could sorley need.

And no I wont't give any hints/explinations of the story/plot that i've come up wit. :)

In that case:

Great hit detection. Really, spot on.

Engaging but Believable and Balanced AI (being shot from a scale mile away with a pistol isn't cool)

Solid and smooth moving map layouts. Linear is out. Open is in.

Balanced believable weapons, with a purpose. (unless it's a silly-type FPS, then bring on the bread-firing toaster-guns)

Playstyle options. Do I HAVE to blast my way through at 200 rounds per second, or can I stealth it? Can I misdirect? Can I hide out of LoS without them knowing exactly which pixels I'm standing on?

Graphics etc isn't nearly as important as Quality of the game. A good story and solid gameplay can make/break a game above and beyond graphics and sound. TimeShift, as an example, is a great looking, great sounding game. But it lacks in everything I listed above. To ME, that makes it a crappy game that LOOKS good, and HAD potential; but was never implemented.

I'd like to see a FPS where cinematics and story really take a forefront over combat and action. For example (SPOILER!), in CoD4, there's a scene where you are the former president of a middle-eastern country getting dragged through the streets on your way to get executed. Brilliant! Now, I'd like to see a whole game where you're basically playing a character in a crappy situation like that, but it's more about the story and interaction with other characters then it is about running through maps gunning down terrorists and rebels. Give it some RPG elements where you get to pick a few dialog choices, but keep the game focused on telling a story, rather then thrusting you into combat.

optimization.

People say nowadays that an optimized game is the one that gets 30 fps on the newest hardware....

honestly, it's not.

First of all, a great story. Then some great interactions between you and the characters in the game, great dialog and some emotion. I'm so tired of "shoot everything in sight"-type of games. Untraditional, well balanced weapons would be cool too. Forget guns and automatic rifles, make the game sci-fi or something and invent new interesting weapons.

I would love to see some more crazy maps. IIRC in Sin there was a MP map which was basically one room with lots of doors. If you walk in one door you ended up on the wall or something (with gravity pulling towards to wall for you) And I would also like to see an FPS that takes place somewhere you're not used to see in FPS games. E.g. a game where you play those G.I.Joe toys, running around inside the living room, in the garden, etc. Where you can melt the enemies by using fire (turn up for the heat, when someone is over the oven, or use a flamethrower, etc). Or drown the enemies by pushing them into the sink filled with water (sooner or later they'll get too tired to swim) :D
