I want the protaganist to have to go to the loo once in a while.... Nobody can hold it in that long :o)wurn
Hey in crysis the Koreans to take a piss once in a while!
I'd like to see an ACTUAL story; a reason for where I'm going and a purpose for what I'm doing. I'd like to see an actual Singleplayer-based FPS again, not just a Multiplayer with a SP mode. Half Life, System Shock 2, Splinter Cell, Deus Ex, Elite Force II: Like 'em or not, these are great story-based FPS's.
Edited for the weird spacing problem on these boards...
Story is awesome and all, but the reason why I asked is because I already got a base idea for a great story in an FPS I wanna make one day. now the reason for the question is I was wondering what things people would love to see gameplay wise that hasent been done before and most FPS's could sorley need.
And no I wont't give any hints/explinations of the story/plot that i've come up wit. :)
In that case:
Great hit detection. Really, spot on.
Engaging but Believable and Balanced AI (being shot from a scale mile away with a pistol isn't cool)
Solid and smooth moving map layouts. Linear is out. Open is in.
Balanced believable weapons, with a purpose. (unless it's a silly-type FPS, then bring on the bread-firing toaster-guns)
Playstyle options. Do I HAVE to blast my way through at 200 rounds per second, or can I stealth it? Can I misdirect? Can I hide out of LoS without them knowing exactly which pixels I'm standing on?
Graphics etc isn't nearly as important as Quality of the game. A good story and solid gameplay can make/break a game above and beyond graphics and sound. TimeShift, as an example, is a great looking, great sounding game. But it lacks in everything I listed above. To ME, that makes it a crappy game that LOOKS good, and HAD potential; but was never implemented.
