Doesn't seem like this will happen for a long time. And it also seems like "The Grid" is another network entirely from the internet, meaning you either have the internet, or the grid - effectively splitting the community.GodLovesDead
this would mean
dial up= you are a bum
high speed internet = ????
"the grid" = You are freaking rich

That's retarded. Why replace infrastructure when we already have so much extra? Take trans-atlantic cables for instance. Only about a third of it has even been rented out to telecom companies, and only about 2% of the total is actually used.
Sounds great for researchers, but domestic users don't need this. Howzabout working in technology that will benefit people who can't even get Internet access at all.

I doubt anyone uses dial up today.[QUOTE="plourdo"][QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]Doesn't seem like this will happen for a long time. I doubt anyone uses dial up today. You'd be surprised. I know several people who still use dial-up due to not having a need for an Internet connection. As well, in the province I live in there are many rural communities that can only get dial-up still.
