Say goodbye to laggy online games and pings. Today I'm delighted to share with Gamespot PC board that the next breakthrough of technology is just about here. It's defiantly spectacular and amazing.

unfortunatly it will be many years before that will be implemented outside of the military and the Government into civilian homes for general stuff. We'll be stuck with the internet for quite a while longer.

Well, it's only a matter of time before broadband is superseded. However, I wouldn't get too hopeful just yet. It could very well be another decade or so before we see a significant boost in speed. Still though, the thought of playing with hundreds of other players with no lag is very tempting, not to mention the fact that most downloads would become near instantaneous. Let's just hope the internet doesn't fall apart before then.

im ok with illegal downloads going by the wasteside. I do not want to start this age old argument again, but I am one of those nerdy anti-pirating software/music guys. Anyways, I can always use faster internet. Can't wait for my Fios to be hooked up next month

Doesn't seem like this will happen for a long time. And it also seems like "The Grid" is another network entirely from the internet, meaning you either have the internet, or the grid - effectively splitting the community.

That's retarded. Why replace infrastructure when we already have so much extra? Take trans-atlantic cables for instance. Only about a third of it has even been rented out to telecom companies, and only about 2% of the total is actually used.

Sounds great for researchers, but domestic users don't need this. Howzabout working in technology that will benefit people who can't even get Internet access at all.

You'd be surprised. I know several people who still use dial-up due to not having a need for an Internet connection. As well, in the province I live in there are many rural communities that can only get dial-up still.

That's incredible and yet daunting.

the grid? sounds like a cheesy name. Sort of sounds like one of those evil computer programs from the movies.
