Currently Im Using a Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS (by Fusion....), and I really want 2 play Half life 2, CSS, Portal (when it comes...) on High Settings, or their maximum, but my recommended settings are pretty much medium for all, so I was wondering if there was any good GPU's that you can recommend (PCI, Preferably Under $150 Canadian, so thats about $100-ish USD)
Thanks in Advance!

Have you tried any of the games? I'm not sure about portal but i used to run CS source and HL2 on almost all max with an old ATI 9600, my buddies x1300 card in his laptop does it perfect, i dont see how your 7600 would have an issue...

My 6600GT could max it out without anti-aliasing... and that was with recommended settings, too. :| Try cranking the settings except for AA up to high, and see what happens.

My GeForce 4 could run HL2 on medium-high, your 7600 should be more than enough to run it on high.

you dont need to go any higher than a radeon 9550 or the equivalent Nvidia card. But id say if ur spendin monye u might as well go big and get the 8800GTX or GTS as posted above, i personally have the GTS and it is worth every single solitary penny.

Dude You can run HL2, CSS etc.. maxed out on a geforce 6200. So ethier its a cpu,ram problem

If you have a 2+ ghz cpu you can max out if you have more than 512 the same thing. So ethier your doing something wrong or you dont have at least a 2ghz cpu and 512 ram...

ok, so my system specs are as follows:

2.4ghz AMD Athlon 3400+
512mb SDDDR RAM
256mb Nvidia 7600 GS
100mbs DSL Connection (I dont know if thats an issue....)

So it looks like a perfect HL2 setup, but it lags when I jack it all up.. maybe that just happens after and becomes fine later... hmmmm

Need more RAM and the CPU is kinda slow but shouldnt be bad for HL2.

your Ram might be the problem, but I dont think its that. I ran HL2 with onboard video just fine, so I cant see why you are not able to run it.

my x800GTO runs on the highest settings, save a few AA and filtering things, at 60fps on 1280x1024. (Stinky Pentium 4 3.0 and 1.5GB of 2700 ram, too...upgrading in may =D)

That card came out years after HL2 was even out. I can max the graphics on a radeon9600 and get smooth fps as long as I leave out HDR. However, I am not sure how the next source games might take advantage of newer hardware but I am sure you can run episode 2 wihout too much trouble. At least for now you can play source games maxed out.

Get 1gb of ram at least, 2gb if you can afford it and your'll be set.
