WoW is the best there is. I have played all major MMOs, none come close. Lineage 2 is the only good MMO besides WOW except that it has a grind that rivals the Original EQ.

FFXI Online was awesome, when I was playing then.....Guild Wars is pretty good(yep free online. nice). World of Crap, that's what Ive been playing lately, tho Im not sure if I'd say it's the best yet cuz Im still pretty much new in that.

Depends.

EQ2 is a more mature game. It is better balanced, has more customization (in terms of character selection, skills chosen, and actual graphics), and a much more mature user base on average. Characters are more skill and knowledge dependant rather than item dependant. Quests are more involving, and areas are much more interesting. PvP is very intense since there are penalties to losing but is also somewhat rare. The game is very immersive if you like RPG's. EQ2 has more content on average for all characters. Suffers from raider elitism syndrome... only raiders should have the best items which i disagree with.

WoW is a much more relaxed game. It offers on demand PvP on any server you join. It is much easier to play, and is very easy to learn. There is very little customization aside from your skill trees. It has a huge userbase thus a lot more people to interact with unfortunaltly, the majority of people are very young (sub 14 years old) and immature on average. The people in the game can ruin the immersion. Suffers from raider elitism syndrome like EQ2 but its much worse at high levels because this game is very item dependant. There is very little end game content and you have to do it over and over if you want your character to improve.

Both games are good but it depends on who you are and what you are looking for.

Seems like your on a good track if your avoiding WoW because that is definetly not a good MMO.  If your feeling old-school and want to meet a great, albeit small community give Everquest 1 a try.  If you want to do some PVP try Dark Age of Camelot.  Just hang in their until the new wave of MMO's, mainly Warhammer.

WoW is decent, and Everquest 2 completely sucks. I recommend that you just wait til early 2008 (play a good online shooter or something) and feast your eyes on Warhammer Online, which will destroy the competition. The wait'll be worth it ;)

for those believing warhammer will be the heaven sent dethroner of WoW from it shigh horse think again...its hardly gonna have an audience. we've know about it for almost 2 years and nuthing yet...or not much anyway, eventually people will get tired of waiting and leave it behind (a lot like a diablo 3 only ppl still want it)

LOTRO is decent MMO, I recommend checking it out. Best MMO's are still Ultima Online and EVE. They might be a bit confusing, if you are a newcomer to the genre.

Go to MMORPG.com and create an account. Make a topic in there and tell what kinds of games you like. MMORPG.com is the sanctuary for MMO veterans and they know there all the best MMO's out. I'm sure that they can also find the perfect MMO for you.

There have been a lot of popular games that were known to be in development for a long time. I don't think it'll flop just because it has been in development for 2 years and people have known about it. Plus, it was being developed by a different company before Mythic took over. It also looks like they are making good progress, look at how many times WoW was pushed back. 8 million subscribers world-widedefeats that theory IMHO.

Eve, hands down.  No other MMO out there, at least that I've played, offers the level of complexity that Eve does.  It makes WoW look like solitaire.  I have been playing it since beta (a little over 4 years) and to this day I am excited to come home from work to play.  And I technically haven't even scratched the surface of the game.  It's truly an unbelievable game.  Nothing compares.

I think warhammer will pull most of the pvp crazy players away from wow. Pvp is one of wow's big weakness's imo. I don't think it will be as successful as wow or kill it, i don't think anything can do that other than wow itself. You only have to read what people have said about the game, thats people who have played very early versions, to see it should be a great pvp game and very very different from wow.

Avoid the "City of" games like AIDS. I am playing City of Villains right now, only because I have overplayed WoW a bit. Plus, I'm not paying for it. There aren't many people playing it, and most of them who are don't quite have the concept of WASD down yet. It's fun to customize your character, but that is basically it. Paying for it is sketchy as hell, and apparently a lot of people have been getting ripped off. Plus, the updates always come with a list of bugs they couldn't work out.

 So remeber; AIDS.

I got LOTRO last Thursday and its a fairly good MMO, not nearly as good as WoW but its a change (and im a LOTR fanatic).  I would also recommend Guild Wars which was the first MMO I played, its free and its not too hard to get used to. I am going to get back into Guild Wars over the summer, last time I played it the level cap was something like 20 and there's plenty of expansions out for it now.
