I have a 50" samsung plasma tv (New model 2010) and ive been using 16:9 picture size but i know that 1:1 pixel mapping is better.

Now my problem; On plasma tv's you cant use screen burn protection on 1:1 pixel mode (screen fit) but can use it on any other screen mode, so if i use screen fit then i run a high risk of damaging my tv with IR or worse sceen burn.

So id like to ask what setting everyone has?

I game for about 2 - 3 hours a day and alot of games have "HUDS" or life bars and other still images on screen, Any help will be geat.

Thanks in advance :)

Burn in isnt a problem anymore. So go with whatever setting looks best.

That's not true though because my Tv stillgets IR and that's the start of screen burn. My tv is a Samsung and a new one but is still effected by IR and screen burn it is still a problem in modern plasmas

I dont know the tech terms for samsung plasma tv's but most plasmas will have an 'orbiter' setting u can use, this moves the image on the screen by a few pixels each time and therefore minimising any chance of IR or worse still screen burn.

All that said though, most modern plasma tv's today are very much better than they ever were and screen burn has been pretty much eliminated on all but the cheapest made tv's so i do think u may be worrying abit too much.

How many hours do u have on the tv currently? I gamed on my LG plasma from the very first day it was delivered and there has been zero ill effects to the tv, there was some very mild traces of IR on one game but only at one point during a loading screen and then ive never seen it again since.

As for picture settings you really should use 1:1 pixel mapping if u have the option, it will avoid any scaling of the image and should result in the most natural picture image.

Also, some of that image retention you are seeing may just be from it being a new TV where the display is not fully "broken in" yet.

Its also a problem with LCDs. Happens to any display that gets far too hot. I've had 2 Samsung LCDs get damaged permenantly because of it. And burn-in is no problem except for a select few. You'd have to have torch/vivid mode on and leave the same image on there for many hours past normal viewing. Even then, the most you'd likely get today is IR. And you have built-in tools to get rid of that.
