My experience has been that they aren't useful. These results are from when I assembled my PC, so before I overclocked anything.

Windows 7 btw
These scores also vary depending on the OS. A score in vista can't me compared to a score in windows 7. Windows Vista only goes up to 5.9. With 7 you can go all the way up to 7.9 gmaster456Every score posted so far have been from 7.

Strange, I have an i7 940 with 6gb of ram and a 4870x2 but it's giving me 5.9's across the board. I don't get it, but that's alright. This IS on windows Vista. When I do 7 we'll see.

vista maxes out @ 5.9 while windows 7 goes up to 7.9 :)
Oh okay, that's good then. I'm glad to see 5.9. I am installing 7 in the next few weeks or so I think, so I'll see what happens. I just need to buy a new license. My Windows Experience Index score is the same as everyone else's: meaningless and indicative of nothing.

I am happy with my systems performance so it doesn't really matter what windows says but here it is anyway.

Oh I don't know, the 3.3 from my HTPC is pretty accurate in telling me that the Atom is garbage for average processing tasks. But yeah, other than telling people that any score under 5 is awful it doesn't really do anything else.My Windows Experience Index score is the same as everyone else's: meaningless and indicative of nothing.

OK I have Radeon 4800 series too...
using Catalyst 10.6 driver I got

With Catalyst 10.8 and 10.9 I got
7.4
5.5
6.0
6.0
5.9
Sure it's driver problem...
Never realized drivers could help so much.I guess if you don't have an SSD drive, your score sticks to 5.9, even for those 10k RPM drives.
ATLReppa770
Yeah I have two wd raptors in RAID0 and it still sticks me with a 5.9
Pfft.
