Gamestop has the bright idea that pc games don't matter, consoles are the dominant market and they wanna jump on the bandwagon. They are also hypocrits because they sell you "new" games but they are all open, at least here. If you want a good selection try Bestbuy or Amazon if you don't mind buying online.Whiteblade999Im quickly becoming a Steam guy , retail is becoming weaker and weaker.

Same, can't beat the benefits of having the game on the account and being able to download as much as you want. I also really like the securom warning so you don't get an infested game.

Fair enough, but amazon.com is outstanding for buying games, I know from experience.

Digital distribution is going to be the prefered method of sale within a year or two I believe. Pretty much every major retailer has a pretty weak selection of PC games. Like everyone has said, Steam and Amazon for the win, especially if you're trying to find older titles. Bestbuy, Target, and Fry's all have decent selections of newer games, but very few classics. I did see Divine Divinity at Target like a month or two ago though.

Amazon is pretty good. GoGamer is good too.
I agree with Gamespot sucking for pc games. EB Games is pretty bad now, as well. EB used to have a pretty good selection...but, alas, no more.

I prefer Steam anyway. Case in point of how nice Steam is: I forgot to pack any games to bring to my Dad's house while I'm staying with him for a week over Christmas. With Steam it's no big deal. I just installed it on his PC and now can download Call of Duty 4, Left 4 Dead, and any number of other great games I've bought through Steam.
As far as Gamestop is concerned, it seems like the one near me is run by high school kids who know very little about gaming in general. I went there to trade in a bunch of old console games, and asked for a boxed copy of Left 4 Dead for PC, and the girl at the counter was like "for PC? I didn't realize they made games for that"

personally i've moved onto online retial like amazon or ebay for buying my games i dont like steam to much as i like having a physhical box and copy and having to download a whole 8 gig game if i want to play it again is annoying and slow.
but i totally agree with u several places have decided to shrink there pc game section good thing microcenter still has a huge collection.
Well ive been to 4 gamestops near me and two have eliminated their Pc section and the one that has it just sucks , only big game they had was WOW. The other one that still has a good selection was bigger before, but atleast it still good. Has this happened to a gamestops near you?xAngels_Assasin
because most ppl who play pc games buy their games from steam or direct2drive. consoles really dont have anything like that yet and consolites have to buy their games somewhere so. its just good bussiness cause im sure they would lose money if their pc games section was as large as their console section, because like i said most pc gamers (like myself) stricktly use steam or direct2drive.
I rarely buy games from the shops these days, they are always rip off.
I've seen PC games go for £30-£40 in the shops, they are pocketing the difference because most people are used to console pricing anyway, the most expensive from Play on average is £27 with free delivery.
depends where you live, where i live there is huge lanes still. I also see tons of people buying pc games.
EB games and gamespot were never big supports of pc gaming. They make their money from the used game market. even wal-mart has more games then they do.
I am happy where I live there is tons of pc games this just another attack on pc gaming
Gamestop makes a good chunk of its money from overpriced trade-in games. Since they can't do that with PC games it has put a big dent in their motivation to keep a good stock of PC games on hand. Another problem is the store itself. They seem to rent the smallest retail space they can find. It doesn't help that they display most of their console titles face out eating up almost all of their wall space. A third and probably not last reason is the condition of the boxes. In the stores near me most of the PC boxes are out of order and look like they have been drop kicked all over the place.
I don't have any use for steam. In fact, the only digital distribution site I have any intrest in is Good Old Games. Its a fantastic place to get some older titles. The list is short right now but, it is growing fairly smoothly. GoGamer is my other main souce of games.
