Left 4 Dead...Ep3...Ep4-5-6/HL3
EDIT:Forget L4D...that's just Source Technology.
D9-THC
Ohhhhhh yeah, left 4 dead, I'm not really looking forward to that one ?
But do you think they're working on anything as big as Orange box ? I mean this was the biggest thing from Valve for a LONG time.
Well if the fans decide they want HL3 in one installment that will be bigger than the orange box. But if the fans decide for an episodic HL3 then there will probably be some major milestone for gaming down that path too.
Valve will never cease to amaze us with their creative take on gaming.
Episode 3. Gordon's Finale. With his story wrapped up who knows what's on the horizon for Valve. They said not too long ago that they would think up something for Adrian Shephard. I'm sure we will get more Half Life universe games. As for new original projects like Portal, I'm sure they got something up their sleeves.
[edit] Too be honest I think Episode 3 will be a full game. An Episode is just too small to wrap up Gordon's story. Just too much going on unless they want to answer more questions later with a different hero.
Nice, I'm really into valve's stuff so I'm kinda sad that their stuff takes so damn long to be made
Each episode of HL2 is like 1,2 years apart when their only like 6 hours long. :(
I know it was long with orange box because they had to realease 3 other games with it but Episode 1 was like 2 years after HL2 realeased, anyways I'm gonna keep an eye out for Valve titles and anything HUGE, in the meantime I'm just waiting for Fallout 3 :D
Hopefully a map pack for TF2. Maybe Portal 2. Episode 3 also.
Frankly I would like to see them try out another genre.
I would kill for Firearms Source or Action Half-Life Source....time to google! Somebody must have made/be making those.D9-THC
I think the firearms team is making their mod for source.

if you've played Episode Two and finished it, you might notice something about our old friend Shepherd. pretty sure it was him.
i would have to agree though, they cant sum up Gordon's story in a 6-hour episode, considering it didnt even take 6 hours for some people (ep1 and 2)
oh btw, is this like a confirmedreport that Gordons story ends in the next installment? or is it just a theory? if its true, where did anyone read this?
If you ask me, there is only one way for Gordon's story to end: he must die. Sorry, but Halflife is a tragedy of the epic type, and the hero just needs to die. Sorry if this depresses you but he is like Will Ferrell in "Stranger than Fiction"...he just has to die.
But if he doesnt, thats fine....I just want to know who the gman is.

Can you elaborate on this? i didn't notice any references to him but i may have missed it.
Also its been hinted Episode3 may be released Christmas 2007 or early to mid 2008 as Valve have been working on Episode3 as long as they have been working on Episode2. The Source engine improvements in Episode2 were small tests for what they have planned to include in Episode3. However they may have just had a skeleton crew working on Episode3 so the game might not be that far developed at all. I do hope we get an Episode3 by early to mid 2008 atleast because i dont think i could wait another year for an episode.

Wow, Christmas '07? Thats like 2 months from now, or early '08 thats like less than 5 months. Oh man that would totally rock, and make up for waiting for Episode 1 for so long. I love Valve, but I am bitter about that.
According to Gabe Newell's Developer FAQ, He wants to do something called 'Prospero', whatever that is.

4th question down in that link.
-Feath-
I just can't get over:
How long is Episode 1?
We're aiming for around five hours. The last time I played through it took me six hours, so your mileage may vary.
Maybe it is time for Gabe to ditch the trackball.

ummmmm... actually the episodes are minutes apart. not years.

You shouldn't diss trackballs man. One of the most ****c ownage CS demos was performed with a trackball, you can be really accurate with them.

um, i dont wanna spoil anything for anyone. have you completed the game? or at least reached the point where you meet your first Advisor, up close and personal? PM me if you want.

mrbojangles25
You and me both, I can't think of another game that has me as intrigued as the Gman. I've been wondering since HL1 back in he 90's for god's sake, and it's about time we find out!
the last thing i want from Valve is another HL game. but if they absolutely HAD to do, at least branch it out to Adrian Shepherd......i've simply had enough of gordon freeman.
the best thing would be another new title......but looking atValve'smonotonous port folio, i don't think so :(
As far as what's next for Valve, Left 4 Dead looks tight, real tight. I believe Valve owns that IP and is supervising the project, similar to Portal, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's a Valve release over STEAM that's gonna be integrated into the STEAM community features for Co-op and online play. Personally, I can't wait for that game. Last I heard, it had a January 08 release.
From what I've read over at steamfriends.com a few months back, there were rumors floating around that Episode 3 was coming much much sooner than later after Ep2's release. Who knows, Valve is as secret as Blizzard when it comes to this stuff. I'm sure they will give us more Portal goodness, as the game seems univerally loved. HL3 is almost a given at this point, as there are an unlimited amount of games that could spawn out of the HL universe.
As for the mod scene, a few were mentioned earlier, but the Black Mesa mod is coming along nicely, and in case you haven't heard of it before, it's a total graphical overhual of HL1 in all it's glory. I myself am looking forward to this mod more than most retail games, and to be honest, I would pay full retail just to get my hands on it. That is going to be a real treat.

wow, to each their own. I can't get enough.

holy **** i just looked that up, had no idea that was being done. so they are re-vamping/re-doing the whole HL1 Black Mesa experience with the latest Source engine? hell i'd pay money for that too. HL2, Ep1, Ep2, all excellent games, some of the best FPS out there. HL1, THAT was revolutionary and truly groundbreaking. now with a Source engine.
[QUOTE="Phelaidar"]Gordon doesn't have to die...
just give EP3 the same type of ending from HL1, then they can make HL3
Atlas_FTW
LOL they could do the whole AvP 2 thing..start as a head crab, find a scientist or combine, attach, mutate, become a zombie. hunt Gordon. good times, good times

Yup the rumour is Episode3 will be released either Christmas 2007 or Jan/Feb 2008 because Valve have been developing both Episode2 and Episode3 at roughly the same time. However i'm not sure as to how many people they have had working on Episode3 but i imagine they'll have all the Episode2 developers helping out aswell to speed up the process. Also once Episode3 is released Gabe Newell has stated that Valve are letting the fans decide on how they go about releasing future games, either episodic format or full game.
On a sidenote i look forward to Left4Dead i think its going to be a big step for the STEAM community, which is already massive, to be able to play alongside each other in a co-op style game.

Why don't you work at Valve? Oh yeah, you're not an idiot.
HEAD CRAB 3 FTW!
honestly nobody thinks that it's time for Valve, and us, to move on? how odd.... :? i mean, look at the top developers. Blizzard and Bungie tried and succeeded in multiple titles/genres....Relic at least has several classic franchises.....others prominent FPS devs, including Epic, Raven and Irrational, all have several successful titles under their belts.
and then there's Valve, which has been feeding on the one and only title since the 90s. Valve has brought certain innovations to the genre, that's for sure; but apart from that, i feel Valve is severely lacking when it comes to creating fresh gameplay experience. my days of online fps have long gone; nowadays i'm more appreciative towards single player content -- and i feel that, to gamers like me, Valve simply fails to deliver.
