I prefer Asus(motherboards, graphics cards) , Corsair(cases, water coolers), Evga(for power supply unit). Nzxt is another company which makes easy to work in cases. G. Skill makes some pretty good ram.
There is no such thing as "best" gaming desktop. You can always build one. There are plenty of guides circling around the net.

Well nVidia Titan X in SLI along with OC'ed 6950X and a 16-32GB 3000MHz+ RAM and a PCIe SSD is pretty good.
Though best within a budget and games one usually play will vary. A game that doesn't benefit from more than 2-3 cores will have better performance on a Skylake i7 set-up with faster RAM than a 6950X. Even if both are OC'ed to a 4.7GHz. Skylake can also handle RAM above 3600MHz while the same is a matter of luck with the Broadwell-E processors. A single GPU set up will probably perform better with Skylake than Broadwell-E.
The best gaming desktop (within reason) is probably the GTX 1080 paired with an i7-6700k. Get some pci-e storage too.
The absolute best would probably be a bunch of new Titan X cards and a 6950X CPU, but that's a $5000+ gaming rig, plus you might as well get an 8k display.
