I wanna get a new RTS but don't know which one to get.  Rise of Nations and Age of Mythology look pretty cool.  Any body has an opinion on those games?

Anyway, what do u think is best RTS?

Thanx!

Warcraft 3 is the most fun RTS. I also like Age of Empires 2, but it's pretty old now. I like DoW40k and CoH but there not as fun online, IMO.

Supreme Commander HAS indeed been released, well if you live in the UK it has. I'd Say company of Heroes is the best RTS game, but that is my opinion.

Rise of nations is a great game if you have a crappy computer set up. Very in-depth and cheap. But if you have a good computer COH is the way to go. I think its fun online but I understand if you not a very good player how you would not like it.

So, let me get this straight. If you have a faster computer you can't play older games? Gameplay over graphics, gameplay over graphics. Remember that and you may go far in life.

Starcraft if you want a dated, yet excellent, multiplayer experience with a large community.  I really think there are better RTS games out there that offer more than Starcraft does (but thats only cuz I am one of the few who doesnt "get" Starcraft).

Command and Conquer: The First Decade if you want the best singleplayer experience and a whole lot of games for the price of one game (this is my favorite series of RTS, get this one!).  This RTS didnt start the genre, but it definately popularized it and set the standard for future RTSs

Supreme Commander if you want a newer RTS with massive maps and huge quantities of units.  Been playing this for a couple days and its a blast, good singleplayer and multiplayer.

Homeworld 1 and 2 if you want one of the most innovative and possibly one of the greatest RTS games ever made.  Read my review here http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/homeworld/player_review.html?id=387860  If you are a strategy buff, then this game is a must have.

Ya, the game is out in Europe.  I got a copy cuz my friend works in the shipping business..lucky me.
"Hey man, you going to the UK any time soon?"
"Ya, you want some absinthe?"
"Nah, but can you pick me up a copy of Supreme Commander"
"Sure"
"...and a bottle of absinthe"
hahah just kidding

The game is awesome!  Singleplayer isnt as crummy as I was expecting...actually, its quite nice!  Havent tried multiplayer yet, but my Beta experience was very good so I dont see why the retail version should be any worse.

IMHO the best RTS is usually the one that has subject matter/time period that interest you. Of course check out the review first to make sure that the controls are good, the depth is there, etc

Personally I like melee fighting and a touch of history so I go for the Total War Series specifically Rome: TW – God I love the phalanx – :)

Well i think i have an interest in rise of nations because of the way it goes through multiple time periods like Civilization.  I really like that and its the only RTS that does it.  If i was limited to a time period i think i would like it to be when swords and bows were used, not guns (besides cannons).  But, i don't know.  All these games ppl hav been mentioning seem promising.  I'm conflicted!

I haven't played a better RTS than Warcraft 3 yet. Total War is a great game, but I played it for about 130 hours before shelving it, comparing to about 2 or 3 straight years of WC3. Age Of Empire clones (i.e. Rise of Nations, Empire Earth, etc.) never appealed to me for some reason. There's just something about them... I played only demos of CoH and DoW. I thought both were pretty good, but bought neither. SC demo looks promising, but I think the game is going to rape my machine. In my opinion, C&C 3 has the best chances of dethroning Arthas. I'm buying it right after STALKER.

Total War series and C & C series combined have taken months of my life from me.

All these games that people are recommending are bestsellers that almost everyone likes; without knowing your specific forbidden> for you. I'm guessing that any of these would keep you occupied for a long time, and you'd enjoy them all immensely.

Starcraft is simply the best RTS bar none imo.

But if you want newer games, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes are awesome.

CoH is great, fast-paced and requires skill and tactical ability, DoW is my personal favourite, Dark Crusade has made it even better, tell me any other game where you can choose between 7 distinctly different armies/races and almost have little or no balance issues? Its absolutely awesome, and the graphics are smooth and full of detail.
