advantages/disadvantages? i was looking at the mac pro and i saw that they only used server cpus over the i7 950. Nobody really seems to use server processors on these boards.

Server CPUs have higher cache, better virtualization, and better interoperability when using multiple processors on the same board.

The disadvantage? The price. If you're not using it as a server, you don't need a server CPU.

a server cpu generally speaking has itenium spport as well as support for vt-x over on the intel side of things. amd has similar technologies b different names essentially their even. anyway almost any cpu can be a server cpu but certain features require certain hardware.. so keep your wits abot you when buying one.. essentially a server cpu is a desktop cpu with more cores and more hyperthreads as well as support for itenium and virtualization.. but they also dot function anywhere near the same as a desktop cpu and none of the boards they work on have support for stuff like hydra/cfx/sli or physix.

Also server CPUs have error correction and error correcting ram. Just so your trading computer doesn't accidentally turn a 0 into a 1 and cause worldwide financial collapse.
