64bit is supposed to have some preformance increase, but it really never got into the mainstrem. Probably because it can't run 16bit programs so no older games. It also has no improvement unless the program is designed for 64bit and most games are 32bit so... =/Swiftstrike5
Supposedly, Crysis is supposed to get around a 10% peformance increase w/ 64bit but we shall see how that holds up soon. Also, if you want to use 4g of ram you have to have 64bit or windows can only use 3.25 or something like that. I have 0 problems with 64bit but some others complain about it.
So do you need Vista 64 bit if you have a 64 bit CPU and can a 64 bit CPU run Vista 32 bit or other 32 bit programs? lol OP sorry for asking in your topic. :Pgs_gear
yeah 64 bit processors run 32bit operating systems fine.
64 bit has few (if any) issues with 32 bit programs, but it requires its own set of drivers for most hardware, and some of them are not very well developed yet. However, vista 64 seems to be much better supported than xp 64, i think simply because the demand for 4+ gb of ram is getting higher.
The bit thing is all to do with how long an address can be. A 32 bit system has address long enough for it to be able to use 4gb of ram, but the os takes about 1gb for itself in such a situation, hence 32 bit os' can use up to 3gb or so. 64 bit address' allows up to 16 gb or ram i think.
