Dragon (effect) age 2 on Nightmare comes to mind, it is so bloody hard that it will make you cry, and thing it, it is only hard because it is stupid and unbalanced. Your team takes aoe dmg from allys, only problem is that the frigin game was made around aoe dmg, and it renders many classes and speccs right out unplayable.
Multiplayer of any shooter will be challenging for you when you're up against decent players, till you get some experience. But if you're looking for a Singleplayer challenging game, then I recommend Dead Space 2 (cluclap reminded me of this, it is quite challenging in harder difficulties), also Resident Evil 5. I can't recall any other "challenging" shooters that I've played recently. Also I felt Rainbox Six Vegas 1/2 were quit difficult in hardest difficulties Also... you can try to play Crysis 2 at hardest difficulty.. but with your eyes closed most of the time, you may find it "abit" of a challenge then.. hahaha
Any RTS at even a Medium level of competition IE Multiplayer is Hard for me. DOW 2 and DOW are very taxing! I am rated 1400 on DOW2 and it is a struggle!
Counter Strike Source is Hard due to the players usually being die hard for years!
any body remember the commandos series? they were quite tough, though they mellowed down with commandos strike force(bad game anyway with a FP perspective)

GRAW baby. Has nothing to do with the avatar lol. Was just a tough, tough game with huge levels and few checkpoints to save at. Nothing worse than spending an hour into a mission only to die right before completion.
I believe that would be "Lawnmower Man" on the SNES. Very hard game.. I may have played harder games, but I can't recall dying so often so early in any other game...
I agree. I recently started playing Metroid on NES again, and it's not very easy. A lot of those older games had pretty challenging levels. Some of the Mega Man games, as well.
As far as PC games go, I had a very hard time at the end of NWN2. The last battle was ridiculously hard for me.
Jagged Alliance 1 and 2, I pick EASY difficulty every time, and even that is very hard. I've done hard difficulty on them before and without abusing quicksave, you get ur mercs shot up before u get a chance to do anything. Its not a good thing either, this game series is great other then the weird difficulty. Having to save before every turn is really unrealistic and takes away from the realism.
