My harddrive seems to be on its way out as i seem to be having to reformat and reinstall all the time. And i need to know what is the best make of harddrive.

I cant afford to spend much, the most i can spend is 50 pound and i want either 320GB or 500GB,

Seagate.... But this is the type of question where you ask ten people and you will get ten different answers.

Seagate, Samsung, Western Digital, Maxtor... all good hard drives. Just find the cheapest price for the size you want.

There are no reliable brands of hard drives. They all fail. Seagate have the best warranty if that's what you need.

I've got a Samsung HD103UJ in this machine, I've also got 1 in my Vista Media Center PC. I've had no issues with either.

Stay away from Seagate's 7200.11 with the serial number ending in "AS", they have a tendency to start clicking on you and die. I've had 2 of them do it to me in the last 4 months. It seems those models are particularly faulty. I've dealt with other Seagate drives and they have served me well, the Western Digital drives I've used have served me well also.

Go with Seagate. Seagate and Maxtor = same company.

WD, Samsung, Toshiba, Fuji (am I missing any) = another company.

Seagate makes all their own parts and heads while the rest of them buy their parts from TDK. So basically, you just have to ask yourself - do you want to buy Seagate parts or do you want to buy TDK parts.....

The correct answer is Seagate.

I primarly use seagate in all of my systems, except for my laptop, I picked up a 320gb wd scorpio black... but that is about the only time that I didnt purchase a seagate.

I have been a fan of theirs since the first time a bought a 9.1gb u160 cheetah drive.

I do have to admit that the seagate name has kind of gone down hill a little bit, but they still make the most solid drive and one of the best warrenties on the market! (Also the customer service is very good imo)

I had a Seagate 7200.10 drive fail recently. I had everything backed up so it wasn't a big deal. Seagates replaced the drive though, love that 5 year warranty.

If I was buying a drive today, I would get a WD.Â
