I played World of WarCraft for about 2.5 years. It has an addictive quality because you strive to enhance your character through mundane actions. However, I would have to say that it is the best MMO out there at the moment. The locations are vibrant and exciting, the PvP is actually very entertaining, the user interface is easy to use and overall it is a good quality MMO. If you have played WarCraft III that is another reason to get it because there are a lot of ties between them which please the soul.
Basically, you should try World of WarCraft if:
You have a lot of time to waste.
You have friends playing it.
You want to play an MMO.
You are interested in WarCraft.
Well considering most people on this forum dont suggest WoW id say you wouldnt get many yes's to play it. I myself are one of those people who would rather play hello kitty adventures on penguin island than play an WoW. But if you have the time and a very strong social life then go ahead and get WoW but i find it excruciating to do the same thing for hours on hours and killing the same thing over and over again so i can get 50 of the same item and do the same thing again but this time on a different monster.
the best way to find out would be to download the free 10-day trial from the website.
I recently tried it out. The first 10 levels or so fly by, you get xp really quick and the excitement of leveling up draws you in. the next 10 levels go by quickly because it's still pretty easy to get xp, and even if you aren't leveling up quests give you cool gear that makes you feel like you're getting alot better with each one you complete.
once you reach 20th level or so, however, the game shifts from the exciting stage to the mundane stage. at lvl 20 the quests that give you good gear all but disappear and are replaced by quests that send you to point A, where you must kill X number of Y creature, then turn in the quest for meager amounts of xp, some money that you'll quickly blow through, and a new quest that has you killing X number of Z creature. Once you reach this point it becomes an exercise in leveling up your character just for the sake of leveling up. According to my friend who's been playing for about a year, this phase lasts until about lvl 50. Unless you're really motivated to level your character up, it's going to lose it's appeal
WoW does have its moments. the pvp aspect is where most of the apeal and lasting value stems from imo. The questing is fun but sometimes tedious. The reson why this game is adicting is the sense of progress you get from advancing your character. thus being able to "gank"or kill with ease, players of the opposing faction yeilds great satisfaction. However when you finally learn the games roots you will discover that many aspects of the game are shallow. These things you discover on your own as you play. Id recommend this game to you if it is your very first online rpg. But when you finaly find the need to move on to bigger and better games, LOTRO is where its at.
Dude, don't complain when you're in your golden years how we didn't warn you that this will take a huge toll on your life, so:
This game will tak a HUGE toll on your life!
There, you are warned. And If you don't exactly want to lose 10 years of your life or die of exhaustion in the meanwhile, pick up BF2 or BF2142 instead. Better than WoW.
