I bought it a few days ago, and ran it when i had only 1gig of ram. And it was horrible, choppy beyond belief, only 15fps. I than upgraded to 2gigs, but still i get 15fps. I got the update for FEAR just in case, but my frames never went above 15. i doubt that my 8600GT is the problem when i can run other newer games better than FEAR(Crysis, COD4, GoW, TF2). any idea?

Yea, check for drivers and updates. Also, the game's first level is signifigantly choppy in comparision to the rest of the game.

Just finished Fear and Extraction point. Ho hum, but it does get choppy, can't understand why when my machine played Farcry and Cod2 like a champ. Must be time for an upgrade.

FEAR brings many a pc to its knees....In fact, it is used as a benchmark by a certain PC magazine....Turn down your GRAPHICS and you'll have better performance.....

I have turned down the settings. Its so low that HL1 looks more appealing than FEAR does. Even with that, I only get around 15FPS.

Have you tried setting the processor affinity to one of your CPUs to see if that makes a difference?

This doesnt make any sense, you should be getting 60 fps+ but hey i got the same problem when i tried to play crysis it slowdowned as sh1t. And the reason for that was that i hadnt connected the graphic card properly, it wasnt getting enough electricity so it slowdowned as sh1t, chcek how you connected the graphic card and see if it changes anything.

Hope it works, good luck.

Kjarrideath

My 8600Gt is in fine. TF2 runs like a beauty, as does HL2:ep2. As for crysis, i was only hindered by ram when I had 1gig. But now its smooth as butter. Bleh.... Im gonna give up at the end of the week if this poo of a game doesn't run well.

Reinstall it maybe? I wouldn't worry too much Episode 2 has put a stake through the heart of that series anyhow..

That could be your problem "Vista" can be picky and cause problems.

Strange, but Fear is a bit of a system killer. Although from your specs, 15fps does seem awfuly low. As for the previous comments about does anyone care anymore about the Fear series, well after Extraction Point and the abomination that is Perseus Mandate, probably no. But the 2 expansions for Fear were not made by Monolith. Monolith split from Sierra and Sierra kept the name for the Fear franchise. So the 2 expans are made some other company, and it shows. The sequel to Fear, which is made by Monoltith looks damn good, can't wait for it

This may sound stupid, but if you got a USB keyboard, take it out and see if the frame-rate shoots up.

I've read of FEAR having issues with specific types of keyboards (mainly Logitech's gaming keyboards) where it just runs like utter crap unless you do a couple specific things...

The reason your frames are low is because of your usb inputs i.e mouse or keyboard. You have to go into Device Manager and under Human Interface Devices you have to disable HID-Compliant consumer control device and the disable the rest that says HID-compliant device. This is common for logitech devices so try it out and see if this works.

I'm curious as to why the hell that issue hasn't been fixed......SquareEnix accidently had the same problem occur in Final Fantasy XI in their patch last week, but came back a day later and fixed it, yet here's FEAR with a fresh stand-alone expansion pack that came out, and the problem still persists...

I believe it's the engine F.E.A.R was built on that causes this issue.

It shouldn't affect anything other than your USB devices themself if they have some special features, such as them aforementioned gaming Logitech keyboards, which use the HID drivers for their LCD displays.

Not a problem. You make me want to play some F.E.A.R atm but I have to get to class. MarioOO

Edit: It doesnt effect anything and if you want you can always enable it back after you done with F.E.A.R.

Don't worry about it, it's not your machine. The developers were idiots when they made FEAR so that's why it's choppy as hell.
