What's up with Steam lately?

I've never ever had any problems with Steam. Now all of a sudden me and a friend of mine began experiencing issues with Steam, at the exact same time. The same problems.

The issues are this, first, you run Steam and it suddenly checks for an update, but does it for like 10 minutes with the progress bar not going anywhere. Then it comes up with an error saying it can't connect and you should check your internet connection. So I played Sid Meier's Pirates for awhile and recently checked to see if it would connect. It did, and the exact same time my friend could finally connect. (Coincidence, I think not.)

Now however, when Steam is actually running, it will "freeze" every now and then. You can't click into anything on steam for about 30 seconds to a minute, then it will work fine again. What I would like to know is, is anyone else experiencing this problem? I have never had issues, now all of a sudden bam, and my friend who just got Steam, got the issues the exact same time as me. Thanks for any help we could get on this matter.

I am said friend and I am deeply disapointed with Steam's services so far. I downloaded the client and installed and then when i try to launch it it freezes and tells me after a while that i should check my internet connection which is a complete load of hogwash. I finally managed to get it to work and then seemingly at random, Steam decides to freeze up and I am forced to close it and then re-open. To conclude, Valve must really get their act together, because, if this is the service I am refusing, then, I dont want to be part of it!

In short, if you don't receive the service, you shall refuse it. :)

If it's been happening this week, I've been experiencing some problems too, which I suspect is caused by Team Fortress2 getting released for free, and anticipation and preparation for a big summer sale.guynamedbilly

Yeah, for me it started happening today, for my friend it's happened since he first got Steam like yesterday.

I really wish you didn't HAVE to use Steam with said games.

I don't have any problems with steam, but I do have problems with tf2 lately. Guns not appearing on enemy players etc.

Theres been a huge influx of new players because of TF2, it should get better in the future.

Play in offline mode. Problem solved. I know you have to login to Steam to switch to offline mode in the first place, but still...easy solution.

Sure, but the better solution though, is that Valve fixes these problems. If you can't get online you can't play multiplayer or get achievements etc. Doesn't sound like a real solution to me.

It won't let me log in, when i try and retrieve my password, it says "You have not entered an email address that we recognize", even though i have 3 of they're emails sitting in my inbox.

I buy one game off them and can already see why ppl hate steam.

Also wtf is wrong with Ubisoft's site ? I just purchased Rainbow 6: Raven Shield from steamto play co-op with a friend, installed it, tried to get on mp, but realized you also have to be regestered with Ubi's site to play. Only problem is, it doesn't even let me regester there for some reason. I fill out everything, click the create my Uplay account and nothing friggin happens ! What a load of crap.

I have yet to have a single issue with steam, I did however have to reset my EA password to play RA3 this week but that was because Bioware got hacked apparently -_-.

Sounds like it may be something on your end rather than Valves fault. I had a little trouble downloading the day that TF2 F2P was released and thats been it for the past years that Ive been using it. Iantheone

Nope, it's Valve. Never had a problem, and at the EXACT SAME TIME me and my friend both have the EXACT SAME ISSUES. I've been doing this game for a long time, I'm not a PC noob, it's something wrong with Valve. There's still a blatant bug in HL2 at the beginning and on all the Breencasts where the Breencast is too bright. Ever since one update, and Valve refuses to fix it, and it's NOT a user problem. The problem = Valve.

Steam has been hammered by a huge influx of new users recently because of TF2 going free. ( it beat CS for most players ever playing online a few days ago too )

Id imagine Valve where overwhelmed with the amount of new users and werent prepared for it. The VAC servers have been overloaded causing many people to get VAC booted from games due to loss of connection to both the VAC and the item servers. Im sure Valve are working on fixing things.

I agree, it started with TF2 going free, just hope Valve fixes these issues soon. It's not major, but it's very annoying especially if I can't log in online, I can deal with the rare freezing issue.
