I bought a 650gb hard drive about 8-10 months ago for about $60 and now everywhere I look I can't find any decent HD for under $120. What is up with the prices? I heard something about a flood in Thailand or something like that.

Yup. Its the flooding. You should have picked up HDD's during the black friday sales. 1TB 7200rpm drives were going for normal prices. (Around $70-80)

I am in the same boat. I have a 500 GB HD only and was looking to get another one this holiday season. So much for that.

Costco has some external harddrives for normal prices if you want to repurpose it.

Same here when i built my PC I didn't have enough to get a bigger hard drive, but now they are so expensive I don't want to get one.

I got tired of waiting and went for a SSD. At least my system boots faster now.
