Hey Fellas.

OKI I've got I strange situation here, when I try to install my copy of Windows XP it always stalls at 88% when it tries to copy wsecedit.dll it can't do it ,however the same copy installed fine on my old laptop before I unistalled it and gave it to someone else.

My copy of Vista I bought recent;y does this same thing as well and won't install even though there's no corrupted files or anything, why is this? could it be my optival drive giving up or something?

Cheers if anyone can help us out here

Yes its my own gaming rig and its a 2004 one. I installed Vista before and didn't like it so I want to go back to XP but now it won't install for the reason I mentioned above, the specs on my machine are absolutly above Vista's requirements anyway so it's nothing to do with my machine, I thought it was just a damaged disc or my optical drive playing up, its a Philips DVD Writer.

CD/DVD drive. I've had that problem with older CD/DVD drives. kept stalling on installing some .dll or something and you keep trying to put it on and can hear the CD drive spinning up to speed but not quite manage it. A different drive solved it for me but it was along time ago that happened many years even.

Generally happens on the old slower CD/DVD drives. Doesn't mean they are broke though.

If you have a lot of trouble sometimes it will be better to use floppy install and then use the disk for the rest of the install.
