Ok, so I just finished putting together my new pc last night, but my dad set everything up after it was physically put together (installing OS, drivers, etc.) since I had to work. Works fantastic except for one issue... I have a 500g hard drive but it only shows 127g of space :p Any idea what might have gone wrong?
Perhaps the disk wasn't partitioned to use the whole disc. That would be the best explanation. It could have also been formatted in FAT32 (which would be rare since Windows XP and Vista use NTFS or NTFS2), but I believe that filesystem has limited maximum capacity.
This is an issue with the original (no service pack) version of Windows XP. I haven't dealt with this issue in a while, but assuming your dad at least installed a Service Pack (preferably SP2), maybe try going into disk management (right-click on My Computer and select Manage) and see if it shows a bunch of unpartitioned space on your hard drive. If so, it's a simple matter of creating a second partition that uses the rest of the unpartitioned space.
