Don't a lot of people play and recommend Guild Wars which is for free? I don't know cause i don't play MMO's.. but a lot of peopel seem to recommend it.Rattlesnake_8
Its not free, but there's no monthly fees which is a close as you're going to get. Most free MMO's are just web-based Java games, and they generally suck.

Yeah, no monthly fees which seems pretty awesome!
Ragnorak Online seems to have billing..
I just went to yahoo and typed "free online mmorp". Probably your best bet to find one is to just search and see what there is.

It's not completely free. You have to purchase the game, but it's free play after that. It can get a little pricey if you want all three games plus the expansion. Guild Wars is more like Diablo with an MMO interface than an MMO, though. Hellgate: London is another game like this. There's a subcription for access to some goodies, but you don't have to pay to play online once you pick up the game. Though HG:L isn't near as good as Guild Wars, imo.
About the only free MMO worth playing that I've come across is Anarchy Online. Most others have been terrible for one reason or another. Also, a lot of the "free" MMOs have a cost somewhere. For Korean MMOs, a lot of them seem to be going over to paying for particular items in game.
I like Unforgiven War. It is text basedbut still a good game. Check it out from this link.

RF Online looks good.

Guild Wars only lets you play the actual game in instances with a few players at a time. In Prophecies. for instance, when you start out you can only do quests with one other person with you in the explorable areas. Towns are the only MMO areas.
Also, off topic, but why can't I quote anyone when using the Safari browser?
EDIT: Weird, the quote showed up even though I deleted it so I could post...
I have not played it yet, but have heard that Pirates of the Caribean online is actually pretty good.
And I have played Silkroad, it's decent. I have also played a couple that were sooo bad, that I am too embarassed to even name them here. Keep in mind I am not generally a RPG type of person, so I really need something to "grab" me in this genre, and that has not really happened yet...
