It's gotta be Quake 1 for me. Such an entertaining, fast, thrilling game, with an incredible feel, look, and atmosphere, especially at the time of release. I hadn't seen graphics like that back then. Although I suspect Doom 1 will win out for most.
EDIT: Oh, and btw, Return to Castle Wolfenstein isn't on your list, and it's about as eligble as Quake 4 is (Both are primarily developed by 3rd party companies). That's a great game that may raise the Wolfenstein poll up a bit.
definitely Doom 2 for me. I played it so much when I was younger. I still play and enjoy it now and again.
Yeah I know! With all the super Boss enemy's and stuff?! Just an excellent game!definitely Doom 2 for me. I played it so much when I was younger. I still play and enjoy it now and again.

Quake 2 is the only game I've spent a good amount of time with - so I vote for that. flipin_jackassIt's takes hours an hours just to get through the core game itself, let alone the expansions that I also have.
why isn't Quake 4 grouped with I-III - shouldn't Quake III be the standalone title in the poll (it had no single player campaign)?
also, where's Return to Castle Wolfenstein?
come on folks let's get some more votes in here! You can't truly call yourself a PC Gamer unless you've played a game developed by Id software!
Because Quake 4 is next gen and it's not even developed by Id software. Also I tried to group the games together the best I could and since Quake 3 feels like the other Quakes (even though no single player) I decided to group it with the others cause I assumed if you like Quake 3 then you will like the previous Quakes.why isn't Quake 4 grouped with I-III - shouldn't Quake III be the standalone title in the poll (it had no single player campaign)?

Quake 2 for me, first game I ever playied where online deathmatches seemed as natural as breathing, with no real hussle. Also the first game I remember that showed that a gpu was not just pointless moneywaste.
I'll get some crap for this one, but I'm going to say Doom 3. If this thread was about inspiration/memorable I would've picked something else. Doom 3, I think, didn't get enough credit. Soooo many people hated on this game. This game was and still is brilliant. PCFr3ak89I'm so glad you said this because I think the same thing. Even though the other id games are fantastic, Doom 3 remains my favorite because It's the game that got me into PC gaming in the first place.
so far I only played Doom 3 on that list. My only pick would be Doom 3.Jd1680aYes Doom 3 is indeed a brilliant masterpiece!
