My favorite RPG would have to be Fallout.
The reason why Fallout is my favorite RPG is because of it's sense of freedom. You can basically do anything you want in Fallout, it also had a great story along with great dialog too. Sure, if you try to play Fallout or Fallout 2 now, it doesn't seem to great, with its old turn-based combat (I like it, but some people don't) and its outdated graphics. The game is pretty cheap now, but around $10-$20 you can get the Fallout Collection, which includes: Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout: Tatics. It doesn't hurt having one of the best RPG's around in your collection either. :)

is oblivion n e good, is it online like warcraft?MaStErOsHy
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is single-player only, and I think it's a good game. It would probably last you for weeks or months if you try to do everything in Oblivion.
There are too many to name just one. Fallout (1&2), Baldur's Gate (1&2), Wizardry VIII, Arcanum, Planescape:Torment, Icwind Dale (1&2), VtM:Bloodlines, and Ultima (pretty much the whole series with a few exceptions). I'm trying to think of which one I like best but I simply can't. I love them all for different reasons.
Oh, and I'm not even taking into account the gray-area RPG's (Deus Ex, System Shock 1&2, etc.).
are there like any online RPG's that u dont have to pay every month to play. i think WOW is good but u gotta pay every month.MaStErOsHy
There are many online RPG's where you don't have to pay to play, Diablo 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate 2, and Guild Wars are some of the best non-pay-to-play online RPG's around. Of course, there are also many free MMO games that you can play, and most, if not all, of them have no pay-to-play at all.
Not many choices for RPG's on the PC really. You have Oblivion on one hand which I personally disliked. It got good ratings, though. Just be sure to have a solid computer. Other than that, I highly recommend Guild Wars. It's hit or miss and more people consider it a "hit" but it has a much different appeal than your typical Online RPG. Give it a go. Oh, and I recommend all three in the Trilogy pack. If you buy the regular GW, it is 30$ but if you buy all 3 in a package it's only 75-80$ and well worth it. If you can only get one... read this:

VTM: Bloodlines and Oblivion are RPGs of godly proportions.
i guess ill get Guild Wars. its got a great rating and alot of people play it.MaStErOsHy
Guild Wars is that free MMORPG, yes?
Planescape, Torment.. It does every single thing that I value so incredibly much more than everything else in games (and novels). Theme.. Atmosphere, Depth, unique and brilliant and deep storyline.. Immersion.. Emotion evoking.. Strong emotions, strong character and character developement.. AMAZINGLY deep dialogue.. Like.. Every other piece of important dialogue in the story was just so amazing, evoked so much emotion, so much thought, so much depth, so much symbol and foreshadow and everything.. Setting was amazing.. Unique and deep concepts..
There are so, so many single-line statements that were read or said in that game, and they are so short and simple-sounding, but they are so deep and mindblowing. At every turn was either a feeling of incredible amazement, or intense emotion. The little side quests weren't just timewasters like most RPGs.. But they added multitudes of dimensions to the storyline.. You could play the whole game without playing a certain sidequest (and probably will), and you'll actually be missing out on a huge chunk of the overall storyline.
It has every single thing to weave an intensely brilliant and deep story, but it has so much more, to paint a deep, immersive, amazingly massive and emotional universe. Nothing has touched that storyline in that game, not even a single novel I've read. Which is sorta sad, since you'd think something as specialized specifically in story would be better than a game..
you do nothave to pay to play online, however you have to pay the game itself which you have to get from stores that sells it
ahdotx
Right, well I figured that. ;)
I wish there were stores that gave away games for free, though. That would be pretty sweet. :P

Me 2My favourite is Knights of the Old Republic... I don't have many arguments why. I just simply loved it. It has a great story and it's a cool game...varpad
Those games are awesome. Hopefully I can get them to work on Vista. :p I'm sure I'll find a way. But yeah, those games had great storylines and stuff and I like how you could pick out everything you say.

me 2oblivion is a first person game right, not like WOW or guild wars?MaStErOsHy
I suggest looking it up.. It is good for initial exploration, fun ish battle and character building (although sometimes challenging), and visual immersion. Not extremely deep RPG and story and setting elements like older Elder Scrolls
I've never played an rpg for the PC. CommanderShiro
They are very different. They aren't as often always turn based, and even when they are, it's real time, but pausable. Top down view or recently more often first person view, but another difference is the way PC RPGs concentrate a lot more on dialogue than console RPGs. They both focus on story, but PC RPGs constantly have multiple dialogue choices, often times a much deeper economy with a lot of buying and selling and weight determining how much you can carry, and dialogue choices that change how much characters like you (and may or may not attack, or not help you, or not give a certain quest) and otherwise change the story and sometimes your character.
This is an older assumption, I don't know how recent console games are, and I understand that games such as KOTOR are on console, now, as well as Oblivion, so you may be familiar already.

Yeah I'm familar with how many PC rpgs are like. I've just never played one, FPS has always been more of my priority on the pc.You should probably try something more like Deus Ex, then... It is an FPS, but you can see the beginnings of RPG elements in it as well. It's basically an FPS, but you can pick between stealth and sniping and heavy weapons and light fast weapons, etc.. And put points in things RPG style.. They don't give you like.. A tunnel, or a rectangular map where you start at one end and end at the other in the game, but they put you down in the corner of a pretty large square area oftentimes, and make your objective right in the middle of it and depending on your styles and stats and etc, you can go around whichever way you want, however you want (within reason) and get the deed done. That's an example. STALKER, I hear, is somewhat like that.
im trying to get a 10 day trial of WOW and to play i need an account. and when i try to make an account i have to pay. such BS.MaStErOsHy
Normally, it'll ask for a credit card number, but won't charge it. It'll very specifically say if it will charge.. And it won't automatically deduct your payment when the 10 days are up, because they want you to pay for the full CD.
The trial key should allow you to play it without buying.. I don't think a large name like WoW does things like that...

To be obnoxious.. Few games will let you make one without it, but I know a few that will..
Often times it's just so they can stick you with the auto-payment BS after your free month, sometimes it's so your credit card is in their records, so you don't have to type it in and all you have to do is click like two buttons, making it more inviting to pay the money since it's just a few clicks, rather than 'selling your soul' and typing in all your precious credit card info and such. Just make sure you check right before you click the 'submit' button the last time, it should give you a detailed explaination of what exactly you're buying or getting, and read anything carefully if you're putting your credit card number into it :p
