I enjoy eye candy, but in games where the frame rate gets close to 30 or so I find that I always tweak things to get 45+ for the most part. I love Metro on Very high, but I get around 35ish frames a second @ 1080p, whereas I have found that on high I can have Vsync on and still play @ 50ish frames. I think the improved frame rate makes a more enjoyable experience over the less smooth but more eye candy rich settings on some games.

What about you guys? Are you on my page where 60+ is ideal but you won't settle for close to 30? Or is 30 fine for you? BTW: I have a superclocked 570 GTX.

This, it depends on the game tho, if it's a game that I need speed and precision more than just playing the game at my own pace, then I lower the settings a lot more.

I've found that it really depends on the game. In some games I've found that FPS as low as 25 still looks acceptable. In others anything less than 50 is unbearable. Generally though I try to keep FPS at at least 45.

Depends on the game. I've played games at 20 fps that felt fine, and others at 30 that felt choppy. On average, 30 is fine for me.

Depends on the game.

Try to play black ops at 45 fps and it won't feel right.

Most games feel fine at 25 fps if they have a lot of motion blur(Like icenhancer).

With my crappy laptop from 2008, I somehow managed to play WoW on a average of 10-15 FPS for 2 years. With my PC now, I like to keep it above ~20 while having everything i can on the highest settings(not talking about WoW-can play that on ultra now)

For FPS games, 30 minimum. For everything else, it depends. I can tolerate the high teens for something like an RPG.

I'd say 40+ FPS. Games capped at 30 FPS are really choppy for my eyes. Ideal is anything over 60, although this is harder to come by on my hardware now. BF3 certainly wont be running 60 FPS if the alpha is to be judged. I was getting around 50 maxed out.

Are you using in game Vsync?

If so I found that using D3doverrider's Vsync and triple Buffering, usually is superior to the in-game Vsync (Triple buffering included) in most games!

Download Rivatuner, and it comes free with it (its all free) You may get a slight performance increase using it instead. I did for a few games.

Also once you have the game open, another thing you can try to do is bring up the task manager, (processes tab) locate the game exe, right click it, and set the priority to high, (not realtime, can bring your pc to a grinding hault) but set it to high, and that might yield you a little more FPS. This works for me on some games, (splinter cell conviction, Borderlands, and a few others that I have been doing this on lately)

60... I always run with V-Sync on...and anything less then 60 fps is intolerable. Of course my rig has no problem running any game at 60 fps without giving up any eye candy or lowering resolution. Even Metro 2033 fell on it's knees before the awesome of might of my computer. 60 FTW !

Even slight lag bugs me quite a bit. I don't really pay attention to fps but if I notice any lag even in scenes with a lot of effects, I'll lower the settings. Minimum during normal gameplay is probably about 50fps.

Generally speaking, I can handle 30+ just fine. When it dips below that too often, I'll lower settings. It's been quite a while since I've had to worry about it though. :P

If I can change the settings to get 60 fps, I do. I don't like to play below that, especially below 45 fps. If I can't get a game at 60 fps, I generally don't play it/buy it.

I like 30 for single player, but 60 for multiplayer. Usually if a game is slowing my computer down to 30 it's not consistent. The fps is jumping around between 30 to 60 which is really annoying in multiplayer. In singleplayer it doesn't really matter. You don't need perfect aim or mouse precision, so I crank up the graphics.

Anything less than 60fps is not enjoyable for me, so I try not to go below 60 fps.

and for games like cod i need constant 125 fps.

30fps is fine for me, i can't be too picky anyway seeing as how I'm still rockin a 4650 1gb. However I have very few games that I have to set down lower than medium at 1680x1050.

40 minimum, but really depends on the game. For like quakelive, anything below 120 is eye hurting. (I have a 120hz monitor). Though if I have a 60hz monitor, I'll live, but it's certainly not ideal.

Around 25 is as low as I like to go. I have tolerated lower though. I remember when I bought Oblivion for my old pc and it ran at about 10-15 fps in outdoor areas. I managed to put in over 150 hours like that. :P

I like it to be at least 30fps. 25fps is acceptable. I won't tolerate anything under 20fps.

The only exception is multiplayer FPS games - it needs to be no less than 45fps, or I just get completely owned.

Depends on the game. In some games 30 seems fluid enough, and in others, it's stuttery. That, or Fraps is lying to me. Luckily my HD 4770 still handles many games well and GTA IV really is the only game I've had a problem with.

I generally keep it so that I get 50+, especiallyin shooters (or anything from the first person perspective). If I need to turn some settings down to get at least 50 then I will. If I have to turn too many down then it's time to upgrade, though I have never had that happen. I generally upgrade when I feel like it, and my hardware generally lasts longer than that.

I played Crysis 2 on ultra(DX11 and high res texure pack) with an average of 37-38 FPS and it was fine.

But there were some rare (2-3) scenes where the FPS were 25.I left the settings on ultra though.

Would you guys lower the settings of a game only for a scene where is some heavy action?

Only if the low FPS gets in the way of me enjoying the game, otherwise I can live with it.
