Alright so Steam is new to the MAC and idk if like the subscription is for like $15 a month or something like that. Or do you just pay for the games? Cuz I don't wanna pay a monthly fee to get a couple of games.

There isn't any subscription. Most of the games are not free, though.
Must... resist... iTunes-hate fuelled rant.... :P So I'd buy the game, download it, and never pay for the rights to use it again, as long as I keep my account? I have another question then. iTunes limits you to five devices to save your files to (one of the reasons I dislike it). Does Steam do the same thing, or could I play my game on the laptop, go to my desktop gaming system two months later, install it there and play it again? In other words, can I have my account active on two systems simultaneously and access all my games from both of them without difficulties?Steam is the videogame equivalent to iTunes and music.

Must... resist... iTunes-hate fuelled rant.... :P You have no clue how hard it was :p Psssh. :P Of course I do. I installed it once, and without asking for permission or giving me a chance to stop it, iTunes re-tagged my entire music collection with a system my non-Apple mp3-player didn't understand. It's been years, and I still don't have it back to the way I want it. Anyways. Back on topic: Can I have my steam account active on two different computers and play the games on either one whenever I want to? I'm trying to research the product before signing up. :DYou can use your Steam account on millions of PCs but as usual not at the same time and you can download your game at any time or anywhere.
P.S I'll also add this since there were...PC veterans... around here that complained about Steam since this feature is hidden and very hard to find and and and and...but you have an offline mode if Steam is under maintanance, you have no internet connection, etc, it will automatically ask you when you sign in if you want to go into offline mode (if there's no internet) if not you have it under file in the client.
As long as I can switch between them I'll be good. Thanks for answering, and for adding the part about off-line mode. I know about it, but was curious about how exactly it worked. :)You can use your Steam account on millions of PCs but as usual not at the same time and you can download your game at any time or anywhere.

nupe. However, if you want to unlock its chatting services you would have to buy at least one thing from it :P
Such as... the free Portal game...? Hey, a girl can hope, right? :Dnupe. However, if you want to unlock its chatting services you would have to buy at least one thing from it :P

Yes you can.Great... I knew posts like this were going to appear on the forums when steam came to Mac. There is a steam website and there's lots of info on it.
Chili I'm surprised that you don't have Steam yet. You should sign up asap :PRK-MaraWhy? I've never had a need for it. :P

We are talking about Steam not DRM. The DRM restrictions are not up to Valve and do not depend on Steam. Fact is you can download your games from Steam without any restrictions unless it's said on the game page also most games have revoke tools even Crysis since you gave it as an example.
Not all games you can... take a look at Crisis as an example. Look at it's DRM warning, on the left. It has a 5 computer install limit. There are a number of games on Steam that have such limits, as well. And It's not Steam that places that DRM limitation, it the developer of the game. Here is another example of an embedded DRM: Silent Hunter V, Assassin's Creed 2ThreesixtyciAs long as they spell that out so I can decide not to spend money on it before I actually do, no worries... *looks at game details for AC2* Oh, they do. Good.
We are talking about Steam not DRM. The DRM restrictions are not up to Valve and do not depend on Steam.DanielDustAnd in the case of AC2, that's Ubisoft forcing the DRM. Steam has to honor and allow it if they want Ubisoft to let them sell the game in their store, so they have no choice but to leave it in there, but it looks like they're good about letting people know about it.
It's misinformation.... he said you can download your game any time or anywhere, and I'm saying it depends on the game....ThreesixtyciBut with for example Crysis, shouldn't I be able to download it forever, as long as I only install it five times?
It's misinformation.... he said you can download your game any time or anywhere, and I'm saying it depends on the game....ThreesixtyciThere's no misinformation, you can do download your games as much as you want period. Steam does not prevent you from getting your game but some DRM restrict you from activating/playing it "after" you download it if you're incapable of figuring out how to get your activations back the only thing you showed us is apparently "some" are too lazy to check the DRM which is not different from the retail but sometimes DRM gets removed especially for Steam. No matter how much you try it wasn't a smart post.
Steam does not prevent you from getting your game but some DRM restrict you from activating/playing it "after" you download itDanielDustThat's what I was wondering. Thanks! :)
Just leaving this here for lazy people. Other games have an integrated revoke tool, others already had their DRM removed through patches and some like AC 2 are like they are.
And since I'm so kind today and I don't want to start a discussion with lazy people here's the other possibility.
Oh? So, I'm dumb for saying to pay attention to the DRM warnings of each game, before buying stuff from Steam.
Fine. buy blind, no skin off my back....
You didn't say that, you said that Steam doesn't always let you download your games and that is wrong, it always lets you but in some rare cases DRM might prevent you from playing them.
I didn't say you were dumb, just that everything you said sounds extremely lazy, because anyone has all the information they need right on the store page of each game, if somebody somehow gets "tricked" and they find out they agreed to something without them knowing then that is just because they were lazy and they didn't bother reading........pause......... .......
