And depending on whether or not the $400 price point holds out, it looks to be a good bit better than the 8800GTS. If it comes out at $450 or so, you can save $100 and pick up a 640MB 8800GTS (possibly more than that, if Nvidia cuts prices a bit for the release), but if it stays at its promised price point, it should definitely be worth waiting for.
Of course, if you honestly can't stand gaming on your current machine, it's really never a bad time to upgrade.
Was it the 2nd? I can't remember the exact day - I know one of them is someone's birthday and one of them is the HD2900XT's supposed release date, but I can't for the life of me remember which is which.
