SP1 should fix alot of these bugs.Indestructible2
What bugs? I am not saying there aren't any, but I have not experienced any, nor have I heard about any specific problem. Just generalized stuff, like "bugs" "glitchy", but never any real examples.
I mean I was expecting lots of problem, I even dual booted XP and Vista figuring I would use XP until they got Vista better. Well I ended up never using XP, and last week when I got my new mobo and reformatted I did not even bother to install XP this time.

Game Compatibility Issues.Just because you might have never had those problems along with other people doesn't mean that everyone else will not have said bugs and problems, thats why i went with XP with my new PC.

I have games that don't work with XP, I get BSOD's sometime on my XP machine. I am not saying there aren't problems with Vista, but none that I have seen that can't/won't happen with XP.
Look at this thread, everyone with Vista (so far) is saying "no problems". The only people I hear talk about Vista problems are still using XP, so they are going off what they have heard, not what they experienced.

That is a fair point. Some people get Vista and get unlucky. However, judging from what I have seen from people on these and other forums, there are very few that have problems. Personally I got unlucky with XP and had a torrid time with it. I would be interested to see a statistic of how many people suffer sever instability with Vista and how many suffer similar problems with XP. I assume that there would be more problems with Vista as it is in its infancy, but I would not be surprised if the gap was small.
My main issue with Vista is that it uses more resources and has worse performance. I've heard about bugs, incompatibilities with older games etc... but the biggest turn off for me is having to lose performance.
EDIT: not to mention SLI x64 bit driver issues and other good stuff like that. Also, microsoft pisses me off because of the crap they pull with games like halo 2 etc... making it vista exclusive. Not that I care about that game, but trying to force people to upgrade is cheap. That's another reason I don't want to give my money to M$.
LOL...alot of the ppl you see whom use vista and are having problems are the ones using "lite" or "cracked" versions.
I tried one (wont lie) and had lots of issues. I liked it still and bought it...and viola....all the probs went away,
But if you are really unsure bout using vista just do a dual boot setup, so if you need xp its still there. I love the dual boot, but only need it for one thing. Vista has a cpmpatability thing that lets you run older stuff on it.

thats like saying microsoft should still make new games compatible with the original xbox. why would they when they've got a new system?
It isnt so much the bugs. Its the massive and complete unwarranted resource usage. It uses exponentially more system resources just so it can do this cool looking aero effect that increases your productivity by ZERO while using half your ram to do so.
In my experience its stable and i wouldnt be afraid to use it. Its just a partial downgrade considering that as of today i havent had anything to do that cant be done on xp while being possible on vista. When there are more vista exclusive apps and the like i'll upgrade.....errr downgrade.
Would SP1 improve gaming performance of Vista?Hellsing2o2
The tests with SP1 showed a 1% to 2% increase in Vista performance. SP3 for XP showed a 10%-15% increase in performance over XP SP2. Food for thought.

 I'm sticking with XP.
Would SP1 improve gaming performance of Vista?Hellsing2o2From the people actually beta-testing and performance-testing the revisions available, Vista SP1 at best hasn't improved overall performance much at all. XP SP3 on the other hand has been seeing a 10% improvement overall over XP SP2, and some focused benchmarks would put it over 2x as fast as Vista SP1. I think the biggest issue at hand is that for many of us, Windows XP was such an OBVIOUS improvement over Windows 98/SE/M.E. (and to a lesser extent, Windows 2000), the incentive to upgrade immediately was there because it did so many things better, despite of what many initially called (and still do) a Fischer Price GUI. Windows Vista just does not have that "wow, this is so much better" effect that XP does, and to date, the biggest competitor to Vista is still Windows XP. Microsoft is trying to get OEMs and the like to phase out support or stop selling XP licences altogether, but even now, businesses are still buying up licences for XP because at this stage of the game, it's the mature, reliable OS that they need for where they plan to deploy, and Vista simply is not. Vista may finally become a competent and worthy OS in time for the majority, but let's be honest... Other than DirectX 10, there are so many things inherently bad for the gamers regarding Vista, we should be treating it more like the black plague of Microsoft OS's at this point. And devs should be seriously at least considering coding platforms more friendly to allowing their games to run on non-MS OS's if they want to stay fiscally viable with any large multi-year game project.
BSOD are caused by either hardware or driver problems.
Game compatibility issues will always exist. They exist in XP as well. There are less game compatibility problems going to Vista than when going from 98 to XP.
A newer OS will always consume more resources. Com'on, we're comparing 2 programs which are 6 years apart. It's only normal you need more resources. Every OS is like that. Go back to Windows 98 if you want a faster OS.
They guy who said one doesn't need 2 GB to run games needs a reality check. 2 GB is standard for both XP and Vista these days. A lot of games benefit from the extra ram.
And what's with that nonsense about 10-15% performance increase in XP SP3? A SP doesn't bring an overall performance increase. The increase they are talking about is in MS Office, not in your games!

THANK YOU!!!! Someone who speaks the truth!!!! I try to say this in posts, but people ignore it... and many probably will ignore you as well here.
well i'm just using the 360 as an example of how much MS cares about fixing the bugs in their products: not at all.
if they treat it the same way, vista will never get a fix.

What are you talking about? XP and vista have gotten constant security patches and enhancements. What do you claim is broken that needs to be fixed? It is as popular to bash on vista in the tech world as it is to bash on bush in the political world. All complain about the problems, yet nobody knows what they want fixed or how.

We don't know what the performance difference in games will be yet because, to the best of my knowledge, the only benches that were run on XP SP3 and Vista SP1 were in Office. I would like to know why more extensive benchmarks weren't completed, or released to the public. I suspect a SP3 performance increase in performance in Office, would foreshadow increases (to a greater, or lesser degree) in other applications and possibly games, but until we get more benches, no one can say for sure whats going to happen. But, Vista's track record kinda speaks for itself.
Old news that many users missed.
