When will core i7 CPU's be neccessary to play the best games maxed out?

So far only GTA IV requires a core i7 CPU but even that doesn't really need one and it is very very badly optmised. When will games actually need core i7s and i am thinking of upgrading my computer.

Not for a long time. It's safe to say the i7 is a waste of money. Pick up E5200, overclock it to 3.0ghz+ and you're set. These processors are monstrously good. GodLovesDead

i7 not a waste of money its a good investment because its far beyond anything out the 920 is a good price only I hate is that the board and ram costing so much.

You got it wrong for unoptimized pos console port it usually was made on 360 To Look best on 360 if you compare 360 / Ps3 Graphic but It was Doubled Graphically on PC If you compare picture of both the City is Twice as Detailed / ect it why it consume that much tough it sure need a better optimization for such graphic but they pretty high when you think about it no load time : so it why it consume that much i belive as it load way too load of stuff at single time

But Again it mostly only troubelsome in fps at 1920x1200 if you got only a Q6600 at 3.2Ghz around and 9800GTX but if you get some big video thing as 4870x2 / 295GTX it run smooth i heard so : If you want more information of Current Status of Core 2 Quad Vs Core i7 Il show you It will be a big picture

A good Core2 Quad will be enough for the next two years at least.
