Looking at how fast it took off... and crysis, I'd say late next year.

I'd say more than a year, possibly two to three. Yes Crysis will help but there will be a need for more titles to go DX10. Plus, Crysis allows DX9 so it doesn't create that big of a need for DX10.

Dx10 will overtake Dx9 when Windows Vista has more users than Windows XP. Considering your question is very general, the answer would be 2 to 3 years (since that will be about when mainstream and business users will be forced to upgrade to stay up-to-date).

In terms of when Dx10 will overtake gamers, in about a year when more titles start being programmed in Dx10-only fashion.

It's going to take a good bit of time before the majority of computer users are DX10 ready (most likely until we see integrated DX10 graphics) so games should be dx9/10 compatible for a while.

The Intel x3000 is already in the newer 1333 mhz fsb Motherboards. The x3000 is dx10.

When the rest of Vista stops sucking, or Microsoft is forced to backport DirectX 10 into Windows XP.

Either way, don't expect it to be anytime soon.

And between the two... OpenGL for the win!
