Currently, the gtx295 is about $499 and the i7 920 is about $300. How soon do you think these will go down in price and by how much? when are the newest graphics cards and new i7s coming out which will bring these prices down?

I was thinking about buying a comp in april--do you think they will be much cheaper by then?

also dell seems ridiculously expensive. digital storm seems to be HIGHLY reliable but still a bit expensive. are ibuypower or cyberpowerpc (which are much cheaper) reliable? i've heard mixed reviews.

i've also thought about buying the parts at newegg and having the geeksquad at best buys build it for about $120. I will NOT build one myself. is that the better way to go? thanks

Id say go for a build, but seriously for 120 is quite the rip off. The price for the gpu will most likely not go down in two months, gtx295 is the best of the gtx2## series, and i doubt nvidia will make the gtx3## fast enough to put down their prices of other products. As for the i7 920, probably like 50 bucks maybe.

The only way the GTX295 will come down in price is if nvidia releases the GTX300 cards or there GTX200 40nm or whatever they are.. either that or ATI pulls there 49** or 5*** out of their hat. With regards to the processor, i believe intel are releasing the i7 950 and 975 extreme, which may drop the price a little on the other i7's... but i could be wrong

It won't come down by much. The i7 is the top dog, DDR3 is still expensive, and the only i7 motherboards available are X58 (enthusiast). If I was building now, and was concerned with budgeting, I would probably get an E8400 with a good 775 board and 2x2GB sticks of fast DDR2. Overclock that sucker. Theres only a handful of games that really make use of quad cores (Crysis doesn't BTW), everything is still GPU, and then CPU (speed) limited still. Then again, I personally want an i7 rig soon. Just because I have the upgrade itch.

Dont be afraid to build it yourself. Plenty of guide and videos online.

i just checked the same configuration from digitalstorm and parts from newegg. there seems to be only about a $300 difference (less if you include the cost of bbest buy guys creating my comp). maybe i will go with them. any other good companies that might be a bit cheaper but just as reliable?
