They're called mods.

Unless you meant official patches. We'll never get those. :P

I think it's a bit rough on Bethesda to demand that they release patches every few weeks for a game that's clearly months away from completion.

Yes I mean official patches. Bethesda promised that there would be much more frequent updates this year, specifically stating that there would be a couple in January. I am still waiting for a patch this month. I think that they will abandon this game sooner than later though seeing as how it isn't a multiplayer game and doesn't require servers to be maintained.

Developers and publishers promising updates should be taken lightly. They usually never come true. In rare cases, developers like CDProjekt Red pull through with amazing (huge) updates and enhanced versions of their games. Just don't expect other devs to reciprocate the same love for fans, even when it comes to minor patches.

Minor patches? Have you seen the beta patch notes? There's a reason why it's taking so long to release because unlike most devs they are releasing a quality patch that's being tested extensively before it's release.

You people are unbelievable do you know how much work it takes to patch a game as large as Skyrim? Any little thing you change has a ripple effect that needs to be calculated and tweaked.

I don't have sympathy for a dev that releases a broken game and needs a lot of patches to fix it. Yeah, Skyrim is a great game, but it is so broken it should never have been released in the state it was.

I was speaking in general. No where did I direct my comment at Bethesda and Skyrim. In fact, Skyrim is my GOTY, and I have been bug-free since day one. :/ I'm just saying that we shouldn't expect so much from devs. Some games get abandoned these days. But I will direct a comment about Bethesda now that you brought it to my attention. I know this is the PC forum, but the state the game was shipped in for the PS3 version was downright broken. As far as the PC version, it isn't to be taken lightly as many users have reported numerous bugs. I've just been lucky. Maybe the question isn't as to why we should understand why Bethesda isn't patching the game more often, or addressing certain bugs. But the real question is: Why release such a broken game? If it is truly broken for many users.

It's already bigger than most modern RPGs. Give the competition a chance, will you.

First of all, I am not your buddy. Second, when something is in beta, it doesn't automatically mean that it is available to everybody, so a link or source would have been nice rather than a snyde response. Yes I read your comment, but it didn't indicate that the patch was in beta to the public. Was I also to assume that the creation kit beta was downloadable too? By the way, the patch that was supposed to release today as you said...nope. Besides, I would rather wait for an official patch.

I guess Todd Howard is a liar then. And developers wonder why people buy used games or wait for the price to go down. If this were college and you turned in a paper with paragraphs missing, you would get a bad grade. Telling the proffessor that the other paragraphs and spellcheck is coming later doesn't change your grade. Pathetic. Imagine if car companies released vehicles with missing safety features and told you that they would come in the mail. Why the gaming industry gets a free pass on releasing games that are still works in progress beats me. Maybe they should be more flexible on the release dates instead of pushing out unfinished work. That is as long as they don't follow the Diablo III example...sheesh.

Hey Buddy, You can get the patch beta on steam, buddy.

Obviously you are just trying to get a rise out of me. I looked on Steam already and didn't really feel the need to change some option on the Bethesda blog page or whatever was required to download it. Besides, if you read my earlier post, I would rather wait for an official patch anyway seeing as how it should be right around the corner. Nice try though. At least you attempted to help, albeit with being an ass in the process.

Well, most people come to forums for assistance or to have questions answered, but some people just like to irritate others. I just don't appreciate it when people are sarcastic or rude for no apparent reason. This is exaclty why I don't like these forums. Over half the users are immature teenagers. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't mean they should utter them every chance they get. You obviously fall in the like to irritate others category. I know the patches will come out EVENTUALLY, my whole point is that they are supposed to be here already and they are not. Consumers typically don't like being lied to, I guess you are happy with unfinished products.

I'm not sure why people are batchin about it. I haven't had any bugs that I've noticed. Well, some funny things have happened I guess that made me laugh, but nothing game breaking.

I just want the creation kit. Screw your patches.

Why would they release patches and include options to let us optimize our PC game from a crappy xbox port when they know the modding community will do it within a week? Free labour and they won't have to lift a finger.

I wouldn't be so sure - if they'd just release the creation kit, modders could most likely fix all of the glaring bugs within a week or two.
Actually, for that matter...what ripple effects? Fixing quest glitches, problems with scripted sequences, floating weapons, and all of the other minor problems wouldn't really have an effect on anything but the few lines of code they relate to.

Anyway...I personally think they're just working on the DLC more than anything else at the moment. They've got to get that out before they release the mod tools, because nobody is going to be paying for horse armour and extra houses once the mods start flooding in.

Stop complaining, a major patch is better than regular minor ones.. Ppl who tried the beta said that it doubles performance and fps's in cities are not sloppy anymore.

Aw forgot that the creation kit n workshop stuff weren't included in the beta, so same goes to this release..

Performance is improved, but not that much, i get high 30s drops in cities such as markath and solitude.. well, something at least

They have every right, if Bethesda knows it can't deliver, they shouldn't promise, an early Jan patch + SDK and maybe an implementation of Steam workshop turned into an early Feb for the patch, absolutely no trace of the SDK (just a shortly after, if they can't deliver for a date and it lasts so long, I guess soon after would mean several more months) and no mention of Steam workshop, like it never existed.

EDIT: I hope whoever worked on this patch loses his/her job...incredible, count on Bethesda and DICE to break games with "patches", you know, the thing that should fix things, I don't care if it's just one of those 1 in a million, these people shouldn't be left on computers to write code for games.

Went from 50-55 frames (at the starting zone after you escape, didn't play it) with the occasional stutter, to less than 0.2 frames per second...it absolutely kills the HDD (with mods, which I got rid of, except the UI and textures).

Patches tend to change configuration files you know. If you have something like ENB for previous patches you should expect problems

I don't use ENB because it always crashes any game after a while and it's a terrible "invention".

It's the patch/game...fresh install no mod, I had to lower the settings to make it perform as good (bad) as it did before, with everything on ultra (shadows medium), sliders maxed, 2xAA, 16 AF (with mods that is, a lot of them + 2048 texture packs), now being, all on medium, no AA, 8xAF, sliders maxed (not a single mod).

Your rig must be stronger than mine as if I play with 8xAF, let alone 16AF, I'll get horrible FPS even in dungeons. This was with 1.3. I haven't booted up 1.4 yet.

This patch actually improved performance for me. Used to get around 30-40, have a consistent 50+ with the same settings.
