Hey guys so i'm starting a project at school where I am planning to build a laptop stand and I want to put in some speakers which are USB powered along with a couple of fans etc.. where would I be able to get some good speakers which are quite small like 3-4" without a housing that I can mount into a frame? thanks

You might be able to find something on Parts Express.

I'm not aware of any USB-powered amplifiers outside headphone amps like FiiO and NuForce, though.

The only PC speaker amps I know of might be the 2.1 Plate amp here or possibly a modified Sure Electronics C|ass T Amp. You might be able to power one of the Sure amps if you're willing to gut the power supply of your laptop, and that's a big "might." Maybe someone else on the board has some ideas.

Good luck,

Boz

He could always use a small Sure amp along with AA batteries to power it. Something like the PAM88003 (Parts Express code: AAAB32131B) can use 2-3 AA batteries plugged into the J1 input (terminal block).
