Where do i place the subwoofer exactly? I've had my subwoofer up on my desk next to my computer monitor for a while and no problems, but is this the correct way?

Move it around and experiment. Leave it were you think it sounds best.

There is no wrong answer. Normally people place it on the floor near their feet, but anywhere where its not in the way is good. Why are you moving it from its current postion?

The subwoofer has to be on the floor; the bass frequencies propagate best that way. It doesn't matter where in the room it is. My computer subwoofer (60WRMS, 15") is behind me to the right, and I face it away from me, or at least sideways to me, to scatter the sound so I can't locate it with my ears. The sound from it is an effects channel, and you aren't supposed to be able to tell where it's coming from. Some people like it right behind the seating position so it jiggles their guts. The one in my living room is behind the TV facing the corner of the room.

Oh and the subwoofer is very close to my monitor btw if that's anything important. Would the corner of the wall under the desk be a good place?

Well we can't really say, because it depends on the thickness of your wall and whether it reverberates, which would be a bad sound.

I heard placing it in a corner of the room, facing towards the centre, helps.

EDIT: I was right, sort of.

Place it on the floor, near a corner but not directly in it. Its ports need a good 6 inches or so to breathe.

OK, you're confused. Can you say "table"? I like the way you say that. Now, can you say "floor"? Good. Table not floor. Put subwoofer on floor.

Thank you oh so much for being ignorant, english isn't my native language. If you guys could see the pic it says "place it here? Facing the centre?" a simple yes or no would of sufficed.

Sorry. I was trying to be funny and vicious at the same time. I guess that plan was doomed from the start. Anyway, put the subwoofer on the floor, anywhere it's not in the way.

It's not truly a subwoofer so placement is dependent on your environment and where it sounds best to your ears. That "sub" is definitely producing bass over 80 Hz and as such your ears can localize it. To that end, if the bass is localizable it needs to be placed such that the bass sounds like it is coming as close as possible to the main speakers such that sound doesn't sound like it's coming form the right speaker while the bass portion is coming form the left side of the room or vice-versa. In a home theater with a true sub, normally you would only send sub 80 Hz signals to the subwoofer which is non-localizable to your ears and hence placement is less sensitive (although corners can reinforce bass output).

Subs go on the floor not too far from a wall. And off center from a screen. So put it to the left or the right. off center.

Use a book or something to block the sound. Hold the book out away from you, and move it around until the sound drops off. In other words, listen for when the book is blocking the sound, and that will be where the sound is coming from. I do that under the hood of a car with my hand to find noises.

I would try to find out what's rattling and make it stop---it would drive me nuts. I don't think there is any danger in it, though.

Is the sub making a rattling sound or is the bass itself rattling other things on or near your desk that are rattling?

If the sub itself is buzzing or making a rattling noise, it is likely damaged. This is typically due to overworking the sub, meaning the cone has separated from the surround and is buzzing, the voice coil of the sub is slightly charred from overheating, or the amplifier itself has been damaged. There is generally not a cost-effective way to repair this issue, but turning the sub volume down may reduce its presence.

If the desk is rattling you'll just have to figure out what items are in or on the desk and relocate them.

To your original question, user Urworstnhtmare is correct, you typically want to place a subwoofer near but not against a corner of the room.

Happy gaming,

Boz

I had mine on the floor under my desk.... not only the sub is kinda too big and too heavy, sound better and safer. it's like a must to put on the floor.

You got your bass set way to high then, the bass is meant to complement your speakers, not over-power them.

Alright thanks :)

I had them half-way, thought that was the sweet spot as it kind of 'clicks' into place there. turning it down now
