I am looking at buying a new rig, I have seen some (What I think are) good game PCs on sites that let me customise the components. I am looking at spending around £1000 or less and would like to know:

If you dont buy prbuilt PC's where do you buy your parts from?

I would like to play current top games on high graphics and have a machine that will be upgradable in the next 2-4 years?

Cheers for any help.

I buy my parts from ebuyer.com, novatech.co.uk or scan.co.uk depending on prices and what they have in stock. Have had good experiences with them all and would recommend them. I've dealt with ebuyer support as well and they were very helpful.

Same as above really I deal with Scan they are very good and keep you well informed of where your order is and they always have slightly cheaper prices, i just ordered £1000+ of parts off them last week. If you want a prebuilt there are allot of private custom system builders out there. See the links in my sig.

Wow, thanks for all the links.

For pre built rigs I am looking at these:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/irule.html

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/ireign.html

http://www.cube247.co.uk/products.asp?partno=Andromeda+GT4 (I like the cleaner case)

http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Infinity_Hercules/

(With this one from cyberpowersystems, i would upgrade the graphics card toNVIDIA GeForce GTX590 3GB 16X PCI Express and add aNVIDIA GeForce GT 430 1GB 16X PCI Express for dedicated PhysX) And it come with a monitor, which is a bonus, although I have one already.

A friend has told me to get a dedicated PhysX card, but I am not 100% sure what they are for and as only one system offers the choice, what is is and is it worth it?

Any thoughts? Anything stand out that makes you think ou would run a million miles from these rigs?

Thanks again for all you links

I almost forgot Overclockers I got my graphics card from them and they were brilliant. I wouldn't recommend Newegg unless they ship from the UK as you may find yourself with a hefty import tax.

scan.co.uk

As someone said, very good, very good delivery, well packaged, etc. Built my rig for £500 and it maxes out most games.

Could you possibly let me know the spec of your rig?

I am just going through scan now and have this so far:

Antec 300 Three Hundred, Black Midi Tower Ultimate Gaming Case w/o PSU
£47.96

Intel Core i7 2600, 1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.4 GHz, GPU 850Mhz, 8MB Cache, 95W, Retail£228

1280MB MSI GTX 570 OC, 40nm, 4200MHz GDDR5, GPU 786MHz, Shader 1572MHz, 480 Cores, DL DVI/ Mini HDMI£263

Asus Sabertooth TUF X58, Intel X58, S1366, PCI-E 2.0 , DDR3 1866MHz, USB3/SATA 6Gb/s, SATA RAID, ATX£153

8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.50V£82

850W Corsair HX Series, Modular, 80 PLUS Silver, 90% Eff', SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, 7 Year Warranty£125

Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP 12x BD-ROM & DVDRW Combo Player OEM£46

Not sure if I have missed anything? Have no cooling system?

Any recomendations for what needs cooling and what to get for them?

Also, will all that fit in a mid tower?

Cheers

Well, since barely any games support physx, i wouldn't recommend wasting money on a card dedicated for it. Also that gTX 590 is a very expensive card, you could get a much cheaper card and not lose a huge amount of performance, but of course that's up to you.

After looking at the other responses, sites such as scan and CCL are good. Also try Aria, they often have very good special offers.

Its very hard to choose.

Ok I think I am down to two different setups.

http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Gladiator/Dominator+560Ti+Gaming+PC+%28Sandy+Bridge+REV+B3%29+?productId=43568

AND

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/ireign.html

Can anyone help me make my mind up? OR have I missed a setup out there for the same price?

Cheers

I usually buy from ebuyer. While they aren't always the cheapest, I find their delivery options and service much more flexible than Scan.

Well the Aria one has a better CPU and the novatech has a better GPU. The novatech is also cheaper. Very hard choice actually.

EDIT: Had to remove links since gamespot is rubbish at HTML...

Thanks everyone, I have made a decision based on time/money/my knowledge etc...

I think I am going with this model:

http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Gladiator/Dominator+560Ti+Gaming+PC+%28Sandy+Bridge+REV+B3%29+?productId=43568

It seems to give me the best bang for my £ in a prebuilt system and looks like it will be able to handle Arma2 and maybe even Crysis2 (maybe on low settings?)

Thanks for your help.

Newegg, amazon and ebay.

I got my GTX 460 off ebay for 156 bucks and it's the 1GB version brand new, pretty amazing.

You can use this site to to find the price of anything in EU (most of the EU anyway)

http://skinflint.co.uk/

And use this site to check for the review of the Onlineshops so you know which one is a good place to shop at.

There will be very little difference between the 1GB version and the 2GB version. At the end of the day, the 570 is faster, but also more expensive. They're both good cards and should last a long time, it just depends on how much you want to spend. They will both play the latest games on the best settings no problem :)

Yep. got a new mouse pad from them. Bubble wrapped and everything. Insurance policy included :) And a text every few hours telling me how my order is doing :) for a frickin mouse pad.
