Pretty sure they never said that it would release in 2010, they never really revealed it in the first place or gave any sort of meaningful information. It was just announced with the first two episodes that valve was planning on making it.

Anyways, I doubt they will make an episode 3 now, probably just will make a fully fledged Half life 3 instead of a 6 hour episode.

The notoriety of this long-awaited sequel is doing a good job at keeping Valve relevant.

Because I guess the overwhelming popularity of Steam and games like TF2 and Left 4 Dead are just barely keeping them memorable in the public eye?

They aren't doing episodes anymore. Best chance is they are working on a full blown sequel in secret. If that's the case, probably wont see it this side of 2015

one could argue that the first was a mod, so technically its only 2, or that they have an adversion to anything with the number 3 in the title. will there be a portal 3 or TF3?

It's Valve. Not EA or Activision.

They are taking their time which means the masterpiece will come out absolutely superb with quality found in every corner and polygon.

The release date is in this news story...

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/half-life-2-episode-one-gold-two-dated-three-announced-6151796

In that story Valve are quoted as saying that Episode 3 will be released by Christmas 2007. LOLOL. Damn, Valve really didn't grasp the fundamentals of episodic content. Almost five and a half years late and still no sign of it. Ridiculous.

Valve likes to sit on a bunch of talent and just screw around, I wish I was a valve developer. They must be living the dream life. Go to work, mess around with abit of code from a pet project for a few for a few minutes, then screw around in the recreational room for the remainder of the day, and go home with a beer buzz.

I wish I could be talented enough to let me talent be wasted over at valve HQ. One can only wonder what sort of time wasting innovations they've come up with over the years.

I'm picturing them spinning in their office room chairs atm, just laughing hysterically, screwing around, shooting nerf guns at each other, and they're paid to do that! What a life.

Valve don't like the number 3 so it'll never happen.. sucks but thats how it is. They are too busy with their steam box and making money from steam to care about the HL series.

Who honestly cares? Half-Life is a washed up game now, nobody plays it anymore. It is all about Dota 2 Tf2 and Counter-Strike. When is the last time you honestly wanted to play Half-Life 2 again? I never have, and I didn't even bother to beat the game.

Valve is probably waiting for Linux graphics to improve before they release another game. They still have a bit of work to do before all their current games are ported.

With no information for over 6 years, I seriously think Valve has abandoned the Half-Life franchise. Like someone mentioned, they're too involved in making billions with Steam and Steambox. Half-Life means nothing to them anymore. The only thing left for us is to keep playing the previous games, and consider Half-Life an unfinished epic. R.I.P. Half-Life  Its true that all good things must come to an end :(

Or, you know...doing the logical thing and getting a new engine set up on linux to run the game on for next gen?  Steambox is linux based and all their games support linux on PCs, it's a reasonable choice to wait for then

I seriously doubt it. Money makes people do strange things. And it is money which has made Valve ignore the beloved franchise which actually gave them a foothold in the gaming industry. I still remember playing the original Half-Life when it was released way back in Novenber 1998. Those were the days.

I don't care they take so long to make the game, but at the very least they could release a screenshot, trailer or even a teaser. We have seen exactly nothing of the game, nobody knows Valve is even working on it. Or is busy creating more TF2 hats and DOTA characters.

I've always been a huge Half Life fan and because of that a Valve fan, but the way they treat this series (and Day of Defeat) has made lose respect. I also lost interest in freemans fate, the mysteries surrounding the g-man and so on. I may have once cared but don't end your game with a cliffhanger if it take this long for you to make a sequel.

They didn't end Portal with a cliffhanger and still managed to create a fantastic sequel. And they did it in 4 years too, that's less than a Half Life sequel ever took to make. Between HL1 & 2 there were 6 years and now another 9 years have passed since HL2 with no Half Life 3 in sight.

Let me guess: Half Life 3 will end with a cliffhanger that will take 56 years to get cleared up. No thanks.

I guess I should count myself lucky. I have not played a single game in the Half-Life series. By the time I start and finish all the Half-Life games, Half-Life 3 will surely be out.
