Every game has failed in Vietnam (EVERY GAME) so it would be interesting to see if the guys that make the best action fps could pull it off. I don't know where but somewhere where you would have more open spaces. Even tough custom maps can do that, I want some A++ ones from IW :). The core game needs nothing, it is perfect the way it is and the gfx are perfect and look and feel awesome. For a next COD all that they have to do is find a location to place it in maybe add a lil more detail to the gfx and add some ranks, weapons, skills and unlockable content :). Anything will be good, I haven't been let down by any COD game so far and the next one won't be the exception :).DanielDust
I agree with most of what you've said but I don't know if I want to go to Vietnam. Another jungle game? C'mon lol...

Yeah I'm sick of Jungle games too but nobody does them right.
Indonesia, like Joint Operations.
Theres a lot of Muslims there so you could still have the terrorism theme (tho I personally hate that), only there wouldnt be nast ol' desert but jungles and beaches instead.
Or what about a South American country like Brazil, Chile, etc.
And another thing that would be awesome to include in it, vehicles, there is a mod for COD 4 but it is extremely stupid :) I crashed every time I used a flying platform.
But one thing, does the next COD get to be released on PC? as far as I know it's almost certain it will be like COD3 :( a console exclusive.
what about an alternate timeline. there was a game recenrly that did that but that was crap....we havent had a good alternate timeline game in ages.
so lets say..ooo...its all out war between the US, UK, australia, newzeland and oooo azarbaighan versus europe, china and russia. Oh Oh and then the arfican alliance (yes theres an african alliance in this timeline :P) comes in with far more advanced tech and starts beating the crap out of everyone.
then the irish get stuck in when all other nations become exhausted and become the new world super power..big climactic twist right there :P. it would be brilliant.
note to self....dont write game stories :S.
We need to be able to use Lazer Cats. That will make the game great....
What about something like South America? You could be dropped off in Patagonia with all the snow and ice, then work your way into the jungle, and somehow work your way to the huge salt flats in Bolivia. So you could have several different settings, with a great variety.
That idea sucks, doesn't it? :(
I wouldn't mind if it went back to WWII if:
1) They stay away from the big three (Americans, British, and Russians) and focused more on Canada, French resistance, Dutch resistance, Polish resistance..... The other people who fought in WWII.
2) It would be cool if you could play ther Germans (or even the Japanease)
3) Set it in the Pacific theatre (MOH: Pacfic assault sucked)
There's still alot to do with WWII if you really thinki about it.
But outside WWII, I would like to see a game set in the Korean Conflict. Vietnam would be cool too. But WWI would be even better.
To me, there's really nothing new you can do with the Modern timeline. COD4 basicly showed up all the things we could do in the Modern setting and believe me I'm in the army, COD4 covers alot of what we can do in the modern setting
I originally wanted a Vietnam version next, since I want to see a well-known, really competent dev like Infinity Ward try it for once. Now, I still want them to do it eventually, but I was thinking the religious wars between the Bosnians and Serbs and all that stuff would be great for a CoD game. I admittedly don't know very much about that conflict at all (I don't even know if it's still going on, so, yeah), but from what movies I've seen depict it, it looks like it could be a really good setting for the type of intense action Call of Duty is known for.
My last choice would be some kind of made-up modern conflict in China. I don't know why, I just think the idea of fighting in that environment also sounds cool, and you don't really see any games today where you fight a Chinese enemy (for that matter, no CoD games have depicted Asians of any kind yet).
Why would you want to relive Vietnam?biggest_loser
Because it's a very unique war. Unique environment, unique weaponry, unique battle tactics, unique conflict, and a very unique outlook on it from the contemporary peoples compared to wars before it.

I want a Vietman-game too. I don't think I've ever played a game based on that conflict that actually blew me away. There are so many fantastic movies devs can rip off story-wise too. That's part of Mohaa's success imo.

Ever played Vietcong and its expansion pack? I don't think it would blow you away (graphics were rather poor even for the time, gameplay is good but not remarkable), but it gets the "feel" of the conflict down so, so well. Easily the best depiction of the war and the daily life of a soldier there. There's tons of little touches like stuff you can read in your little bunker about the history of the area, the types of methods and weapons of the enemy, and all kinds of other stuff; and like trinkets you pick up off dead soldiers that your character quips about, like medals, journals, unsent letters, pictures, and all kinds of junk that just go that extra mile to show you that these Vietnamese soldiers you're fighting are human beings too.
There's other touches along with that that really make you feel like you're in your character's shoes and living out the experience. Touches like the feeling of real claustrophobia when you're going through the Vietnamese tunnels underground, walking through the jungles and hearing the convincing ambient noises, hearing your character say things to himself when he's alone that sound like something he'd realistically say or think to himself, as opposed to something just to advance the story or the game.
I don't know, it's hard to describe. I don't want to say you actively feel "like you're there," necessarily, but... You feel like you can say to yourself "Huh. So this is what it was like to be a soldier in Vietnam. These are some of the things they thought to themselves, these are the things they experienced, this is what they had to deal with." I just feel like Vietcong has a lot you can take away from it, despite that it's not the most amazing game out there. It's definitely one of the better Vietnam games, in any case. So, yeah, if you haven't played it, I recommend you try it.
Just try not to go into it with really high expectations overall. It is somewhat of a budget-y (or lower profile, at least) game, and it shows in some ways, it's just still a game well worth playing thanks to some of the things it does well.
