Everyone in the pc forum feels the exact same right now, no decent quality rpg's around, the best we have is oblivion until some developers release some good games... Oblivion is more like a world simulation than an rpg, the only choices you get is your stats and which factions to join :/ it leaves alot to be desired especially with the dialouge and only one way to complete quests. Oblivion really is a game that was made for PC but was designed for the 360, and us pc gamers are getting the **** end of the stick I tell ya!
we feel the pain bro
Ive noticed the lack of decent Rpgs around..There are so many Fps,Rts games, wheres the RPGs?..Ive played Oblivion, great game but not too RPGy...Im stuck playing older games,Divine Divinity,Never Winter Nights,etc....I bought NW2,i was dissapointed, lacked good Rpg elements(IMO)..Gothic3 was too way to buggy...We need some good Rpgs released, seems to be a total lack of them today..Any1 else agree?Mlazaro
Unfortunately, the RPG makers realized that most RPG players are willing to pay to play. So expect 95% of new RPG's to be of the MMO variety. Of course there are still companies making offline games, but many of them are either dull (Oblivion) or buggy as hell (Gothic 3). If you don't really have a need for high end graphics, then spiderwebsoftware.com has some fantastic RPG's for you to play. The Avernum series is still one of my favorite RPG series of all time!
First off, who gives a **** about RPGs? It has never been the PC's main focus. Personally, I got bored with the Final Fantasy series. It's too slow based and grindy for me. If I'm going to play a game like that, it'll be an MMORPG where your time is actually productive...somewhat. If you're so desperate for an RPG (and you don't like Oblivion), then download some emulators and play those.
RPGs like Oblivion are the only real RPG I will consider playing. If it's not like Oblivion, then it better be online or it's basically a waste of time. The general population of PC gamers prefer genres like first person shooters and real time strategy games.

Where in the world have you been thier are tons of people who like rpgs on the pc.
I agree thier is alot of fps and rts people in pc gaming but it doesnt mean they dont like rpgs infact most people i meet who like rts like rpgs as well.

Not everyone has short attention span. There are quite a few of us who love old school RPGs.
I like FPS, RPG and RTS in that order - and yeah, I've noticed that most new RPG announcements these days are for MMOs. Sad to see, because I'm not going to 'pay to play' for a game each month (the exception being paying towards our clan servers for CoD). I wish more devs would make some decent SP RPGs to play offline with good stories.
The Witcher and Dragon Age look to be the only games on the horizon that might deliver a proper RPG experience.
Yeah there isn't really any good new RPGS out at the moment (well from what I've played anyways, could be some good ones I missed). I ain't annoyed though, just gives me an excuse to go back to play Fallout 1 & 2.xVx-Moat
Yeah its hard to believe some developers will spend 3 - 4 years of there life designing a game that is for the most part crap
Well..A game developer who works for Bethesda wrote an article saying turn Based combat is obsolete so i guess you can forget about classic TB combat from Bethesda anytime soon.
everything now seems to be a Diablo 2 clone..

Not that i have bought any of thier games (action rpgs bleh) i will never buy any of thier games in the future.
I wholeheartedly agree we need some proper RPG's.
Also i wouldnt call MMORPG's true RPG's, Shock 2 is more RPG than WOW. at the end of the day MMORPG's are piss poor replacement.
I yearn for the Glory days of Black Isle such a short few years ago. On a side note im all for FPRPG's Arx fatalis was insane, allthough too much of a dungeon hack for my tastes. (At the end of the day we need more cyberpunk games)

I agree with you on those two and would also like to add Hellgate:London (yes, it's a Action-RPG, please no flame) and Loki also seems quite nice (like a better TitanQuest).
When is Dragon Age coming out anyway? It was announced in May 2004 and at Gamespot it says TBA 2007. At least they're not rushing things like other developers, *growls at Obsidian for Kotor 2*.
Dont get me wrong,i love action Rpgs, but sometimes i want a good story, which action Rpgs dot have.Thats the major difference...So it seems like we all have to a long time for a new TRUE Rpg.(Dragon Age).Says release date is 1st quarter 08.MlazaroJade Empire? Arx Fatalis? Deus Ex? Neverwinter Nights? Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines? Divine Divinity? I just don't think we should generalize ARPGs and say that none of them have decent storylines.
I don't understand why so many people seem to think that action RPGs aren't true RPGs. Obviously, games like Diablo or Dungeon Siege run short on depth, which is why I consider them to be more "character RPGs" (you focus more on maxing your character to be a badass rather than developing them to your morals and play style). But true RPGs are all about choices, and games like Morrowind and Oblivion certainly deliver in that department, even if their stat/skill systems are a little on the flimsy side. But what about games like Gothic 3, Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex or Fable? Those are stellar RPGs, are they not? I just don't see what everyone's b*tch is with action in RPGs (particularly the Elder Scrolls series).JN_FenrirThe definition of an RPG (and Action RPG) changes from time to time, place to place, person to person. Let's just say that I dislike the ones in the style of Oblivion and Fable where there is more action than RP elements, the ones where if you took out the real time combat, the games would become a shell of its former self.

Games like Deus Ex and Vampire Bloodlines succeed as RPGs because there is more to it than just building stats and killing stuff. The choices you make as you play directly affect how the game turns out. Where as with a game like Diablo, the end result is no different no matter how you play the game.
