I am starting to look for a new laptop and am not interested in building it.  I was wondering which company do you think is the best to buy from, since it seems some of them just throw some parts together, download a bunch of useless behind the scenes junk, and then ship to your house. Thanks a lot.

My vote would be a dell 1520, they are a good solid laptop for a great price, that or a macbook pro

I was considering a Toshiba anyway, or a MacBook Pro and have had bad experence with HP so I wasn't looking into that.  Thanks for your advice.

Toshiba and Asus are my favourites. I've heard some pretty good things about Sager, too.

Dell and Toshiba have really good laptops - although some are a bit pricey.

I don't know why all the bashing against HP laptops, I've used them in my workplace and I find them as great laptops..

My friend has a Toshiba Sattelite. He didn't buy it for gaming and it runs well. I would reccomend one of those. If you have the extra cash, dell makes some decent laptops. I'm not quite sure, but I think Asus makes pretty good laptops for the money.

my old HP Pavillion zd8000 was like a portable space heater, but damn was it a great machine when it came out. ran HL2 with the best of them. mine only died when it was knocked off a rather high coffee table onto hardwood floor cracking the once gorgeous 17in wide LCD. /mourn

Actually according to the ratings I saw on the BBB they had an AA. I saw one complaint on the page and the guy didn't exactly explain. For all we know it could be some Dell supporter. ~grin~

I have been quite pleased with my Toshiba's and I would not hesitate to buy from them again. I have also been thrilled with my Toshiba 32" REGZA.

Lol, you can't build laptops.

But anywho, Toshiba makes some of the best ones. HP, Dell, and Gateway are fine.

Stay away from Acer. (Yes I know I have an Acer monitor, but that's not a laptop, it's just a monitor lol.)

Actually, you can build laptops. The problem is find the whitebox versions of MSI, ASUS, and ABits laptops. Still, from what I have read, its a PITA. Plus, its sometimes better to get the extra warranty on the laptop. Unless you buy a Gateway, they are fine up to the 2 year, but the 3rd year that just seemed to ignore me. Thats why I went to Toshiba in the first place.

I actually found Acer to be a reasonable value for the cash-strapped; their customer support was pretty good. There is a lot of preloaded junk, but the hardware is typically fine for non-gamers.
