I think Samsungs are good. But every HDTV I saw in Bestbuy was only 1080i. Aren't there any that go 1080p? And for contrast ratio whats the best ratio possible?Chances are, those tv's that you are looking at are 720p tv's but can accept 1080i signals. Many Sharp auquos are 1080p, Samsungs high end LCD's are 1080p. Many DLP sets are 1080p. What technology are you looking at; Plasma, LCD, DLP
Aside from these things what else should I be looking for when looking for top notch quality? (im going for 32"-40")

Many people on these forums have no first hand experience, other seeing them on the showroom floor. Many claim Samsung and Sony are best but I think this is more due to brand loyalty more than anything. The best thing to do is go to the store and see which one you like best! Everybodies perception of what's best is very subjective.
What store did you go too?
Bestbuy, I saw some Toshibas that looked really nice, the Sharp ones looked really good too. But what I'm noticing about alot of 32" tv's are that they are 720p/1080i. Im really interested in 1080p. I would like to look at both 32" and 37" if possible. Aside from the 1080p, what kinda contrast ratio should I be looking for?So far Sharp is the only brand I know that sells a 32" LCD at 1080p, their are probably others though. Some people are under the impression that 1080p is not noticable on anything smaller than 42". I don't by their arguments, but I'm sure that since I said that someone will come around and try to correct me. (oooooh it's all about viewing distance...blah, blah, blah). It's all Cnets fault! P.S. Don't use 720p/1080i for LCD flat panel displays. They are either 720p or 1080p. LCDs and any other new tech tv for that matter can't display 1080i content. They accept the signal and just deinterlace the signal and scale it on 720p tv's to fit the native resolution of the set. New tech tv's don't do interlacing! As far as contrast ratios go I'd say anything 1000:1 and over is decent. The higher the better, but beware of the dynamic contrast ratios. Those ratios can't really be compared to anything. You'll just have to see for yourself.

The Sony XBR series are the best TV's out there IMO. Starting at 40" and going all the way up to 72" they look absolutely fantastic. However, expect to pay $2700 for the 40" TV....they do 1080p as well (of course) and have all the connectivity you could ever want.I have the 32'' XBR2 and its fantastic also.

When it comes to LCD I have been impressed with the Sony Bravia series LCD's and the Sharp Aquos series. The Bravia is a beautiful LCD TV, but I find them a tad overpriced.
If you want a big screen and bang for your buck, check out the Samsung 1080p DLP line...they are starting to come out with the LED models that no longer use the color wheel so no more rainbows.
