I've noticed that Rockstar has been faithful to the PC ports with the GTA franchise, leaving it in the hands of trusty Take-Two Interactive to port it. But with games such as LA Noire and, you guessed it, Red Dead Redemption, they seem to not like the idea of a PC port.

Ubisoft is smart enough to create it's own DRM protection which allows them to output PC games without worries of Piracy. Of course the pc version is going to have to wait in order to jump on the wagon, but that's not a bad thing. Others complain about the DRM, but I have no complaints.

I'm certain that Eidos, which is now Square Enix's European branch, is still developing for the PC. They have been since the very beginning. But the new ownership is what scares me.

Bethesda, 2K, and EA are others that dispense a PC game, but EA is very selective. No sports games are ported because the analog controls are best for those titles.

Not much can be expected from microsoft since their primary focus is the Xbox 360 and just one exclusive title will drive thousands if not millions of fans to buy an Xbox 360 just to play that game. It'sprobably the reason Halo 3 was not ported and nor were either gears of war 2 and 3.

Enough, at the end of the day, every platform has exclusives, if you really want to play most of the games available nowadays you need at least a console PC pair. Ubisoft is actually doing bad with piracy, yet they still make games for PCs, for one simple reason, there is money to be made, no matter how much their games get pirated.

I have a PS3 and 2 PCs.

I use a ps3 for ps3 exclusives as well as console exclusives.I don't use the 360 because I am not a fan of most of their games. I'm big on single-player campaigns and various RPGs. I'll even try fable on the pc. But I'm mostly using PC for the hitman franchise and various others from similar if not the same developers.

Developers only care about the money, which is why Microsoft didn't decide to use blu ray. It costs less to develop for the DVD9 format than for blu ray. Fans will expect a full utilization of the format, which doesn't suit Microsoft. The quality of games lacking unless advanced compression methods are used, which also costs money to spend time on.

Ubisoft has never created DRM that stopped piracy. The DRM may delay the pirate release for a few days after the game comes out at best before it is cracked.

CD Projekt Red, BioWare.

I don't care if Microsoft makes PC games - I would rather they continue to focus on updates for Windows, Direct-X, and WHQL certification for graphics drivers.

I believe, that companies who make/create games because they are gamers them selves, will continue producing quality games for PC.

Companies who sell their souls for profit, will probably not, or at least drastically reduce the quality and release what (PC) Gamers would see as garbage for the consoles (im looking at you Bioware).

But who knows what will happen. 9 months ago I would never in a million years have expected Crytek to start selling PC gamers short but well, look what happened.

That's pretty much all you need in that list. Don't forget Bioware either, even though I'm not a huge fan, and THQ, though I am a big fan.

i think, thanks to digital downloading PC gaming is holding to it. There will be always small companies that will go for PC since they will not want to pay the royalty to Sony and MS. But they will move to consoles as they grow big. Crytek moved so will CD Project. Look at the all the issues coming to their way from thousands of different issues in PCs. Much easier to work with consoles.

Aside from the ones already mentioned above, I think Capcom is doing a great job with PC. I have no idea if they're bringing every game to PC, but some of their bigger titles such as SF, RE, DMC and LP are being ported well to PC (recently anyway, I wasn't crazy about RE4).

Quite true, both DMC4 and RE5 were very good ports indeed (never played Street Fighter IV). But they seem rather ruthless now with the DRM for that new Street Fighter game. Anyways, Walincas pretty much perfectly summed up what I would say. I really wish Rockstar still made games for PC though, games like RDR being a prime example, just imagine how beautiful the western world they created in that game could look if fully utilized on a PC with DX11 and everything.

The PC is where devs can make their names in their chosen field. Despite the "consolisation" of Crysis 2, Crytek carved out a name for themselves as designers of exceptionally good looking games. Blizzard have revolutionised and brought the RTS genre forward with the very different WC3 and the storytelling of Starcraft (compared to others where characters were nothing more than mission briefs).

You'll see a lot of them stick around since there is profit to be made. The PC gaming market maybe smaller, but you can shift a bigger proportion of games to customers thanks to cheaper prices and those profits aren't shared with Microsoft or Sony.

Err.. because Blizzard's mostly known for RTS games....? Diablo pretty much put them on the map, and now they're a household name because of WoW, neither of which are RTS games.

Can't say i fully understand your argument but Blizzard is known for a certain genre depending on the generation of gamer. Younger gamers aren't likely to have played Diablo but those that did will have the image of loot grabbing RPGs stuck in their mind considering how good that game was. I personally grew up with the Warcraft series so i generally think of them as an RTS company. Especially now since they're moving forward with the Starcraft series. Although Diablo will likely shift their image once more. WoW is tricky because its a hybrid of RPG and RTS when thinking about its roots so perhaps that was their way of branching out. Regardless, they'll stay an RTS company in my eyes.

Microsoft is stupid. Fable 3 will blame piracy and not that it was a weak rpg released at the same day as witcher 2 with a higher price. MS will stop again,

Rockstar EVENTUALLY ported manhunt 2 and bully. Maybe those come to pc too. They are looking for pc programmers. The company who made red dead does suck n pc though.

Ubisoft is just stupid. Releasing console focused games on pc that simply dont sell and point piracy like everyone CHOOSE to pirate ubisoft's games  Why dont they make a PC rainbow six tactical game or ghost recon and cash in?

bethesda pracicly lives off mods. So they will be on pc just fine.

EA is the only smart, they know what games to pyut on pc and what not.

Square enix.... needs to stop with Jrpgs and stick to things like deus ex and hitman till they get something smilar.

Oh and capcom will still keep porting without the dlcs :P

I'm not sure what you're getting at. Both Warcraft II and Starcraft were big (Starcraft huge, possibly. Perhaps only Tetris has greater longevity), as is Diablo; mainly because it's Blizzard (who aren't known for their variety of product lines). In terms of gaming history, Starcraft showed the RTS community that you didn't have to include two near-identical opposing forces for the game to be balanced.

Why would you think that? They own Steamworks.. which is like the most profitable digital download service for PC games. I just don't see it being possible unless they scrapped Steamworks altogether.. which won't happen anyways. Care to elaborate? I'm curious as to why you made such a bold statement. :)

A lot of guys we all know and love, such as Ubi Soft, Crytek GmbH, Rockstar, and Irrational are being more console-centric. I fear that Valve will become the only PC game dev, since they're the closest thing the PC has to a first-party.

Except quite a few great developers never made console games, Valve did. Valve makes great games, but they're not the ones that stand out as purely PC developers, they already lost the title you gave them "only PC game dev".

I think the big companies will stop making PC games only when everyone who owns a PC will own a console too, and this is quite unlikely...
For a skimpy person like me buying a whole new (and not upgradable!) system just for gaming is pure luxury. (Besides that I just can't imagine myself playing RTSs and non-mainstream FPSs on gamepad.) And until there are people like me, there will be companies who make games just for them, because there is money in it too (even if not that as much as somewhere else).
As for piracy it's not related exclusively to PCs. At this moment PC is the most lucrative market for pirates, but it could easily prosper on consoles too in case PC-games would die out (which won't happen IMAO).
So my answer: any company interested in fruitful markets (any company, the more bigger one is the more interested one) and any subsidiary of the big ones which is not just committed to make games for PC, but also capable to push his not-so-safe idea through the corporation.
And my honest answer: it would need great amounts of insider information to give a correct answer on this question.

from this list i think ubisoft and Bethesda are the best. they are releasing all of their games on pc. Square enix release only games that are not developed in Japan. but square enix games that are developerd in japan are not on pc. Rockstar dont care for pc anymore (not RDR& La nor) As for capcom i think it is the only japan company who takes pc gaming seriously as they release most of their games on pc. They are also the only company who releases fighting games on pc. and that very important. I like them more than all the others companys. because they were the first to release fighting games on pc. Now if they can release Dragon dogma...

Even if some of the big name players leave the PC scene, we'll see smaller companies attempt to fill the hole they leave. The plain fact is that there is a market for gaming on the PC - and while big budget PC games are understandably rare, multiplats on PC can still sell well to the PC gaming crowd.

Some of the big companies would be mad to leave the PC while there is still money to be made.

I'm certain that Eidos, which is now Square Enix's European branch, is still developing for the PC. They have been since the very beginning. But the new ownership is what scares me. - Agree

Bethesda, 2K, and EA are others that dispense a PC game, but EA is very selective. No sports games are ported because the analog controls are best for those titles. - Because PCs can't use gamepads.

- If one exclusive drove millions of fans to buy an xbox, do you think MS would only have 2 this year?

Also, OP about PC devs and no mention of Valve, Blizzard, DICE, CD Projekt

STOCKMAN22

from this list i think ubisoft and Bethesda are the best. they are releasing all of their games on pc.

No one plays jrpgs on pc. Why would suquare enix bothe? capcom refuses to release dlcs for their pc ports and as o said rockstar will port their games one day.
