If you haven't played them before I suggest you try Source, it's much easier to get into.

Counter Strike: Source is a far better game and the original has pixels the size of your forehand, it will make your eyes bleed. Not to mention inferior bullet physics present in CSS 1.6.

CS: Source! It has better graphix, object scarring, shadows, physics and anisotropy than the original one. Also better sounds.

If I were you I would go with CS:S and I will give my reasoning aswell ;)

The game is a little faster (not alot) you move faster, in 1.6 I often feel like a fridge, infact in CS Ive felt like moving a fridge since 5.4b

The hitboxes are bigger in CS:S all of them, there are glitches with them, but so is there in CS, the biger hitboxes makes it for easier time if youre new, mind you its not by alot so do not expect it to be all easy, atlease its not like CS where you run around a corner and die from a bullet that hit your hitboxes that is about 2 feet behind you.

The 3rd and best reason to get CS:S is the weapons, most of them are the same, but alot of the cheaper ones are far more deadly then in CS, the shotgun is miles better then in the old cs (2 shots to the head, and he is still standing, really?) the submachineguns are also upped in ability to cause death, heck even handguns are more deadly (except for the dessert Eagle, which is less deadly), all this is partly due to the larger hitboxes, but also the engine code, so while most guns looksabout the same in stats, how they act in game is a world apart.

Source. They're both basically the same game, but Source has modern graphics. 1.6 looks ancient at this point.

Also, read a guide. CS isn't as noob friendly as some other shooters. Get really good with the awp, m4, and ak.

CS: Source uses the original CS maps on the new game engine. So I would get Source.

Source imo. Fun maps are simply awesome, especially the quirky physics based ones like Smash.

Considering you havent played CS before, you should probably get the noob version: CSS. Then you can play along in the spray fest with the rest of these kids recommending source in this thread.

Source is more popular in general, but both are good. Personally I would go for source.

I'd go with Source. If you got 1.6, you wouldn't last a minute. 1.6 is where a lot of pro players go. CS:S isn't really easy, but it has less MLG-class players.

Personal preference. Some people say 1.6, some say source. If you can try both before you buy it would be helpful. I can enjoy 1.6 and source so it's hard to say.

Some people like the first one more because it is harder, but it's a huge eye sore by today's standards. Get Source.

With an attitude like that, you shouldn't even play counter strike..there are much more realistic games where aiming actually takes skill...CS isn't one of them.

CS 1.6 was great for its time, but so kick the can was also great for its time...ITs over and done. If you want a realistic game there are a slew of much more difficult games that make ALL versions of CS look like a pre-schoolers shooter

I love peoples' responses in this thread... "GET SOURCE CAUSE TEH GFX IS BETTRRRR!!!11one!!11"

CS 1.6 - Better hit detection, a lot of pro players there

CSS - Hit detection is questionable a lot, a lot of whiney players, better gfx (if that's all you care about).

I was thinking the same thing, you might have a hard time really getting into either one unless you hone some skills.

Diffinately gotta learn routes, awp spots, HE/Smoke bounces, and how to contain your frustration..haha.

Really not for the noobish. The first few times out you will be downloading alot of content- mods and maps so be patient.

Also you might wanna stay away from gungame for awhile.

Good luck!
