Which CPU would be better for gaming in general? The Phenom II x4 975 black edition or the i5 2500k? and what does it mean on the i5 2500k specs "turbo boost"?

2500k is better for gaming.. this being said one can find a 975 for noticeably cheaper.. if its not in the budget or you can drastically improve somewhere else with that same money get the 975..

if none of the above applies the 2500k is the weapon of choice.

turbo boost well to explain it in simple terms the cpu has a metaphorical floodway sitting in the wings.. if the cpu notices owrkloads are peaking to 90-100% it will open up a bit and engage that higher clock speed.. call it a second wind if you will..

yea the 2500k for sure. The amd is alittle cheaper and the motherboard for it will also probably be cheaper.

2500k, also it will overclock to 4.8Ghz :)
