I've been looking at free firewalls and it seems that there are 3 main choices: ZoneAlarm free firewall, which seems to get good reviews - their Defencenet automatically blocks known bad connections and it seems to be really easy to use. Win7 has a firewall, which has the same basic features, but it's not as intuitive and dosen't have anything like Defencenet. Also, it doesn't have an automatic block feature, and I am not a fan of pop-ups Comodo seems equal to the Win7 firewall. So they are all free, but it seems like I should go with Zonealarm . . . wanted to see if anyone had thoughts?

The Windows 7 firewall is surprisingly quite effective. Use that combined with Microsoft Security Essentials (free) and Spybot Search & Destroy (free) and your system will be locked up pretty tight with no really noticeable performance hit.

Definitely don't use ZoneAlarm. Very slow, very ineffective, and constantly spams and interrupts you.

I would recommend Comodo as a firewall only, don't use the antivirus. Its only using 2MB right now running in the background, very light.

That's what I have too. I have Tea Timer enabled in Spybot: Search and Destroy.

Windows firewall is perfect... blocks all incoming ports by default, and lots of different rules sets for the type of network you are on. No need to replace something that works gr8.

Just use a router (hardware firewall) and Windows.
