I'd like a Half life 2 film as well, but I'd want Half Life 1 first - and I'd want both to be shot entirely in first person. If anyone's ever seen the HBO show Carnivale, there's a first person sequence somewhere in season 2. And it was extremely, extremely good. An entire film shot like that would just be amazing.
Consider how first person games are often more intense because the enemies, when they attack you, they aren't simply attacking some third person viewed avatar you're controlling, they're attacking you. The bullets are flying at you. I think this would translate to first person extremely well, and with modern computer effects it would be quite easy to literally have bullets flying right past us.
I'm very, very surprised that no one's tried it yet. It would mean no wide, panoramic shots or anything, but that would not be an issue as Half Life takes place almost exclusively within the Black Mesa complex. Really, I think it would just be fantastic if shot properly, had a decent budget, stayed true to the game and preferably had a cast of mostly unknowns.
Then the sequel, I'd probably want to merge Episode 1 into HL2 - perhaps even all three episodes. Half Life 2 does not have a satisfactory ending for a film, and while games, LOTR and the matrix can justifiably get away with full blown cliffhangers, it usually leaves movie audiences with a sour taste unless there's some pretty big resolution, considering that films take many years to produce and often never even come, thanks to industry politics.
Movies based on games suck. Movies based on events before or after the game are great

There was a FPS sequence in the Doom movie too, and look how THAT turned out.... Agreed that it would have to be done properly, but I am not holding my breath for that.
Any game that turns into a movie must, MUST have a good SinglePlayer Story, setting, characters, a set, integral, and interesting plot, and an actual flexable movie plot because no one will pay to see a movie that they "be part of" in a game itself! So if a Half Life movie came out, it had better not be purely in Gordon Freeman's perspective, because we can live it rather than watch it.
The reason it must have a good SinglePlayer plot is because a multi-player movie wouldn't have much of a base; just imagine CounterStrike: The Movie, and try to decipher any plot out of that one. An UnrealTourtament movie is also iffy as well, since it's all lots of bloodsport, but no great story. However, since Unreal3's taking a new turn in the UT universe, I may eat my own words soon. Just remember: Movies are more like a story than a game. A Game can go fine without any huge stpry to it, but a story without a story is... well, you get it.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Half Life 1 movie. It's got a good setting and overall plot, and there's plenty of places to add new faces.
I'd like to see a Metal Gear Solid Movie:D Now that would rock
Unfortunatly, Someone like Kurt Russell would get the part....
I thought the FPS sequence in Doom movie was good. I mean its the first time ever, and for that they did a pretty good job. chandu83
You must be joking, it was terrible. They had like dudes jumping in front of the camera and waving their armsand making noises it was just plain awful. Video game movies suck and that is just a fact of life. If they could make a good video game movie though I wouldn't mind one based on fallout. Not necessarily the game plot but it would be cool to have a sort of like western movie almost based in the game world of the first fallout. It would have to have Junktown and Kilian Darkwater in it. Throw in a plot invloving raiders, mutants, giant scorpions, Gizmo and his gang, and other such things and maybe you have an interesting movie.

They are already making a MGS movie and it's being directed by Hideo Kojima ( the guy that made the games )
What's wrong with Kurt Russell? I think he's a great actor
BTW, some of the ideas from MGS are from Escape from L.A. and Escape from New York ( with Kurt Russell as Snake Pliskin )

I reckon Kurt would ham it up or stereotype the role, making the movie into another generic game-to-movie-effort. Snake Pliskin is an example; escape from New York is a cult classic, but in this day and age that type of charcater don't wash. MGS needs an actor that can do justice to what I think could turn out to be a great film.
