I'm looking at these 2 games since I really enjoy first person gameplay in a RPG style game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Deluxe or Fallout New Vegas off steam. I would like something that has as much content as possible. I know New Vegas is a newer game and probably would look better but I don't know much about the gameplay.

New Vegas is the better game imo.

Morrowind would be a closer choice, but to me New Vegas was alot more enjoyable then F3 or Oblivion to me personally.

Just Cause2 and Risen I also found very good to.

Oblivion's, imo, is larger simply because it feels more alive and filled with wonderful stuff. Fallout might be larger as far as square miles are concerned, but I always thought it seemed relatively empty compared to Oblivion.

As far as looks, theyre about the same; same engine, though Fallout might have a few tweaks. Oblivion benefits from having more and better mods, though

Yeah... it's filled with countless caves and dungeons that are all exactly the same. It definitely is filled with wonderful stuff. To me, it's not all that large if it's just the same **** plastered all over the place. An open world feels much larger when there's more unique areas. Oblivion doesn't have that, imo. It's nice eye candy. But in terms of depth, it's weak.

Oblivion has a larger world than New Vegas. Fallout 3 might be bigger than Oblivion, but it has the same problem as that game where there's lots of room to run around but very little interesting stuff to find. New Vegas is smaller but more concentrated, so you never have far to hike to find a new town or character or quest or whatever. I do like Oblivion (despite its problems) but I would probably recommend New Vegas over it at the moment. Alternatively, you could get the GOTY edition of Oblivion now and wait for the GOTY edition of New Vegas to hit after they finish delivering DLC.

Oblivion is about the same size as San Andreas.. New vegas is bigger than that. Far Cry 2 though will give you a much larger world. But Just cause 2 indeed has a world thats 15 times larger than Obivion (and I'm not over exaggerating).

FPS with RPG elements you say? you should try STALKER COP and SOC but Clear Sky sucks.

[deleted]
All 3 STALKER games are great. Clear Sky may be the worst out of the 3, but I wouldn't say it sucks.

New Vegas is the much better RPG. It has deeper mechanics, non-combat skill checks, multiple solutions for most quests, factions that actually matter and have an impact on the game, better writing, etc., etc.,...Not sure how much any of that matters to you but there you have it.

New Vegas, warts and all, is probably the best "mainstream" RPG released in a while.

NV's world is actually dense, intractable in a huge scope of ways and impressively detailed. There's also a lot of tan desert. Oblivions isn't. There's a lot of leafy green.

Cosign, im on my 3rd playthrough right now (along with a mod with wicked user made missions/voice acting called NEW VEGAS BOUNTIES 1) and the DLC and im having a blast!

Can't remember the last mainstream rpg that I ended up wanting to play 3 times and actually having the most fun on the 3rd time :P
Was a nice plesent surprise as I wasn't a fan of Fallout3 at all

Elann2008

No, it's accurate. I've seen this image before and did some digging. Those numbers all check out. Also, somebody was surprised that Paradise City was that big, which I found rediculous, given the time I spent just getting from one end of a long race to another in that game.

As for the topic of the thread, Fallout: New Vegas is hands-down one of the best pieces of media of all time. Get all the DLC, play it until your eyes bleed, and then keep playing it. Then come back, and piss yourself with excitement all over the internet about how excited you are for Lonesome Road, just like the rest of us. Got it?

Thanks for the confirmation mate. I totally agree with you that Fallout New Vegas is one of the best out there. Obsidian gets too much hate, but I downright loved it more than Fallout 3, and I loved Fallout 3. I can't stop playing New Vegas.. it's THAT good. And I have like ADHD when it comes to playing games more than an hour.. but Vegas kept me hooked. Excellent writing imho.

If you want to explore Just Cause 2 is your game, I say this because of the mass size of the game coupled with your awesome mobility. If you can see it you can get there, no limitations. Tons of cool easter eggs to find and unique landscapes. Fun as hell and an explorer's Heaven because you can do most of it without being attacked by anything.

Burnout Paradise doesn't seem that big. I mean, look at a ship on the map, is it seriously bigger than stormwind for example? I don't really buy it.

Edit: This link seems to suggest that Burnout is 30 square kilometres and not the humongous 200 square miles that is said on the comparison picture.

Mod Elder Scrolls Oblivion and be prepared for a great experience. With user mods I've spent hundred upon hundreds of hours exploring the every growing world. It is by far one of my favorite games. Although I rarely play the game stock anymore.

Ive played Just Cause 2 for about 2 hours, and the world seemed huge, but i got the sense that everything is just repititve right from the start.. Is there much variety in that game? or much fun to be had in exploring new areas?

And I feel that I should point out that Far Cry 2 actually has two identically sized square maps... I don't know if they factored that into the scaling of the picture. Also, check out the stats on the right hand side.

Whoa... I have no idea the original Test Drive Unlimited is so huge. It's based on the island of Honolulu so that mean Honolulu, Hawaii alone is much much bigger than the entire universe in World or Warcraft LOL

I'm glad to see Asheron's Call up there. It is a great game that I played years ago, and the world was incredibly huge. Lord of the Rings Online surprised me with how big it is. They must have added a huge amount of content since I stopped playing that game.
