Which game has THE absolute best graphics to date? Hardware limitations aside, and all settings maxed, which game would it be?
I know the answer is sort of subjective, but we'll see.

I thought everyone already knew that Crysis was the best looking game ever made. I mean come on, it's been the best looking game for 3 years.SF_KiLLaMaN+1. It'll eventually get into the heads hopefully :P
heaven benchmark running on my 5970.... but anyways, i don't like crysis graphics. technically they are amazing but they look pretty bad to me. all chunky rocks and such. hell even my console games look nicer to me. snowyfleurybenchmark =/= game. Console games look better than crysis? quit trolling man

I've only played SoC and I think World in Conflict has much beter graphics and Batman AA.

I got a new computer a month ago and I have to say the best graphics I have seen in a game so far is Unreal tournament 3. They just amaze me for some reason. Others I have played so far are FarCray2, Mass effect, Fallout3 and Clear Sky. Out of all those I think Unreal torny is the best. I know mass effect uses the same engine, but some moments mass effect looks amazing others its dissapointing. I have not played crysis just yet so I will have to see if that one can take the cake for me. But yea I doubt no one will agree with me but my vote goes to UT3 :D
Character models: Crysis
Scenery and art style: Stalker - Clear Sky
Be nice if they could combine the two.

About the gameplay, I could talk from my 307 hours alone in the mp plus 100 in sp from Crysis and 34 in sp from Warhead, to said that open, expansive environments, customizable weapons and good A.I. is better than linear corridors, random weapons and lack of I.A. For sure, it crushes badly games with the reputation of Halo 3.
It's easily Crysis. I've only played STALKER: SoC, so I assume Clear Sky also looks excellent, as well as GTAIV.
UT3 and Gears of War artstyle utilizing UE3 and maxed with the highest level of AA at an extremely high resolution will undoubtedly make the best image quality.
I will love to say Crysis, but the art direction is rather weak, though I will like to see a team of creative artist utilize the engine potential and pull way from trying to mimic the real world and more into cinematic quality.
Nevertheless, CE2 is the best graphics engine.

Batman aa isnt that impressive, its got console style graphics... its nice but really simple. The reason crysis looks better than other games is that they focused on natural scenery(which you see most of the time).Ever seen the trees in GTA4?They look like two cardboard pieces stuck on the trunk. The vehicles in crysis(IMO)look like crap and indoors look OK.
And no,that isnt a fanboy comment. The only gaming machine I own is my PC and I really enjoyed playing crysis and warhead;both have amazing gameplay and story :)
Of COURSE no one mentioned it!If someone does, the universe will be destroyed because of its awesomeness!!I'm surprised no one has picked this game...

UT3 and Gears of War are technically advanced games, but their color schemes are downright putrid.

Well optimized engine though, just made for a console and very limited.Arma 2 and Crysis are only impressive in scale, personally. In terms of image quality both suffers from dull and generic art directions. It gets rather old seeing artist make efforts to mimic the real world. You don't see games quite like UT3 and Gears in art direction. There could be improvements with the color palette, but both games awed me at the image quality. When more processing power becomes available, enhancing UT3 and Gears with insane AA on a very high res monitor is going to be marvelous.
Like i said... I just bought UT3 a couple days ago and I was totally wowed. I play on a 2560x1600 monitor and the game looks crazy good. The charachter models look fantastic it just drops my jaw. I agree with the above poster. I like the art style of UT3 better than farcry and clear sky. Clear sky looks like a better half life 2. I just dont really care for that art style of looking like real life. Graphics are way way too far from getting anywher close to real life so any attempts are just fail. I think it looks a lot better when they go for a animated look. Just my opinion : )
Compared to MW2, they are almost 5x better looking.I haven't had a chance to play Crysis or Stalker on maxed out settings yet, but I did play MW2 and thought it looked terrific. Are Crysis & Stalker really that much better looking?

I think that the Core level and the Paradise Lost level in Crysis were two of the most impressive moments -visually, both as technical and artistic features- in a videogame. And I didn't ever seen weapons as detailed as the Crysis ones or environment as detailed and realistic as the aircraft carrier. But I must admit that some UE3 powered games as Mirror's Edge looks amazing.
The problem is that you can put the quality and variety of environments from Gears or UT III in the CryEngine 2 or the ArmA II engine, but you can't put the size of the maps or the quality of the vegetation from Crysis or ArmA II or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Far Cry 2 in the UE3. If Crysis looks good in open areas, think about which could be possible in a confined shooter as F.E.A.R. or Quake 4 with the CE2.

I mean don't get me wrong, they were good looking games. However, targeting for realism has lassitude over the years. There's no question that CE2 is the best graphical engine, but the art direction for Crysis is way too weak for me.Me and buds has always consider Cryengine 2 to be the go to engine for outdoor environments, but indoors you can substitute for a different engine and achieve miraculous quality..
