Hi, I've never bought a graphics card before and currently have Intel Intergrated Graphics. I've been looking for a card costing under £90ish and have narrowed it down to 2 cards:

This one http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/127276

And This one cllicky

I also have to take my power supply into consideration, I have a stock dell one.

Also what is the difference between GDDR 3 and GDDR4?

Many thanks

Oli~

GDDR4 is newer (obviously) but the performance difference between GDDR3 and 4 is small.

I'd go with the 8600GT.

ok look its a great card...i also think that going for a 8600 GTS is better i was going to go for it, but i really needed to think about it. FOR JUST A LITTLE MORE, U CAN GET A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE IF U JUST GET THE 8800 GTS A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE:!

I was going for the 8600 GT but it wont be able to survive games this year and next year even the 8600 GTS but its a good card

i would really think about it more and go for the 8800 GTS JUST THINK ABOUT IT try and save or something u could relly get something spectacular!

I'm not looking to be able to play all the latest games on full settings at crazy frame rates, I'm just looking for a card that will run vista well, and play most games comfortably on normal settings. All I really play at the moment is Guild Wars and might get GW2 when it comes out.

Maybe his PSU can't power a 8800GTS or the case can't even fit a 8800GTS...

i have no problem with that but moving on to the others. Might wanna take a closer look at the 8600 GTS??? its faster than the GT and u get a little more FPS for just a tiny bit more..sorry im not familiar with EURO but for me its just a few buck more otherwise i would just go for the GT if u really dont want to wait:)

Yeh. I've pretty much ruled out any of the ultra high end cards, I don't have a massive PSU and I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on a graphics card. EDIT; I've though about the 8600gts but its just out of my price range, also its in pounds :p £1 = $2 , graphics cards are generally more expensive in the UK though :( same with lots of stuff such as bike conponents.

Any views on the ATI card?

The 8600gts is more powerful than both, but the hd2600 has unmatchable performance for video playback. It uses the lowest cpu utilization than any other card. So if you want to watch a movie with no lag, or do soem video encoding the hd2600 is the way, if you want better frame rates go for the 8600 gts. The 2600 and 8600gt are equal some win other bench marks, some win the others.

Get the 8600GT and OC and you will almost get yourself a 8600GTS for 30-40 dollars less

I know that GW is very easy to run, I play fine at 1280x800 on my laptop with a GeForce 7300 GO with no AA and some settings turned down. As far as benchmarks you will be fine with either one, just choose whichever is cheaper.

If you want to dabble in playable DX10 performance, go for the 2600XT. It performs better than the 8600GTS does in DX10. However, if you mainly going for DX9, get the 8600GT.

EDIT: If you're looking to get the 2600XT, get this one. It's the GDDR3 version of the 2600XT you picked out. GDDR3 verses GDDR4 is only a few FPS of difference.

Compnay of Heroes,Lost Planet and Call or Juarez are poorly optimized for little increase in eye candy, they aren't legit Dx 10 games...

Yeah, I know. The 2600XT still doubles the performance of other mid-range cards, though. They may be poorly optimised, but it still shows that the 2600XT has a lot more potential than the 8600's do in DX10.

Sure, let me find it.

EDIT: Here it is. The system specs are on a earlier page. Also, I suppose the 2600XT didn't exactly double the 8600GTS, but it tripled the 8600GT. In DX10, of course.

There is NO way that a 8600GT is only less than half the power of the 8600GTS,there's simply no way.
