I recommend the Core 2 Duo because of it's superior overclocking abilities over any AMD processor. Your future upgrades should be only an 8800 GTS 320 which you can pick up for around $229-280 USD, heck I recommend that now over the 7600 GT.

Get the 8800GTS or GTX now - if that it too beyond budget, get an 8600GTS.

I don't recommend the 8600 GTS for the obvious reasons, it's junk. Though I just looked over your RAM and if it isn't out of your budget I recommend PC6400 RAM 800MHz

For $30-50 over the 8600 GTS you can snag yourself an 8800 GTS 320 which just destroys the 8600, thus is why I'll never recommend it.

Also, if he is going to get the core2duo he only needs a normal pc4200 ram, cause core2duo runs best on 1:1 ratio with the ram.

of course not, dont take it literally, it just has 8 times sharders more than the 7600GT : 96/2 = 8 :D.

lmao, he wont overclock that much, cause that mobo top supposted fsb is 1066, its not that safe beyond that speed, but yeah, its always better to get faster ram and then clock 1:1 with the processor and overclock.

I think you're a little confused, that motherboard is just fine for overclocking.

Heck, it's a little bit better than my ASUS P5W DH and I can reach 3.66 GHz on my QX6700.

If you have the money, get the 650 it's much better than the 570.

Yes, the 8800GTS is vastly superior to the 7600GT, at least 3 times as powerful.

Different manufacturers, ASUS or MSI. It's really up to you, both are good boards.

The PCI-E port that works at 16x will be better if you get the latest card, the bus works at the full 16x speed potential, which you will need for these and next-gen videocards.

Depending on his motherboard. I have my ram speed locked completely seperate from my FSB speeds - not sure if the motherboard he has in mind supports this however.

I would recommend the first setup, always found Intel better for games :)
